Tire Care/Black - without the wet shine

Can you recommend a good tire detail that will just black the tires without all the wet looking shine ? Just want my tires to look like new ones.

Reason I asked about the Poorboys is because I stopped by a detail shop today. He had 4 or 5 cars detailed up all parked beside each other and the tires looked GREAT. Not wet, just black and show room clean.
I asked him what he was using and of course he told me, drop your truck off, let me wash and wax it and I'll tell ya. Now I just got through waxing my truck and drove to his place......I understand. BUT, on my way out, one of his helpers quietly told me "Poorboys World."

 

I find that if you use a stiff brush and some comet to clean the tires, the end up being very black and not shiny at all.

 

Yep, I've used poorboys Bold n Bright for years. (I was a distributor for them when I owned the detail biz too). With all of the brands that I carried, Bold n Bright was my favorite tire dressing (water based). Apply it using a microfiber applicator.
If someone wanted more of a gloss, I would reach for Optimum Tire Gel (their "tire shine" is garbage though imo). Apply the gel w/ a polyfoam applicator.

 

SYSTEM ONE Licorice Black Tire Dressing was great for that, but it was WAY too expensive, so we stopped selling it.

Believe it or not, if you start out with a perfectly clean tire, a good spray wax will give you a nice rich, flat black finish. I tried CSI Q-7 Wax on one of my truck tire (after scrubbing it with a brush and dish soap) and it came out great.

 

Cool, I'll see if I can find it. My problem being that most of the auto parts stores, walmart, target blah blah blah around here carry only the wet junk. But I havent looked for the CSI Q-7........will do tomorrow.

Autozone has a smokin' deal on Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax...just $5.99. If that doesn't give you the flat black look you want on your tires (I've never tried it), it's a great wax for your paint, and it doubles as an air freshener.

 

You can use almost any tire shine. Apply to all tires, then buff off any excess with a microfiber towel. This will really minimize shine/wetness.

I took SteveO's advice and started using comet about a month ago. Very Satisfied with the way my tires look. Clean black and no shine. Dont have to scrub my butt off and gets my white lettering "sparkling white."

 

Sho is. Cheap too........ what is it, like 88 cents a can ?

 

I use Black Magic Tire Foam... although the can says wet, it dries to a matte finish and lasts a long time. Water beads up on it and you don't have to scrub them to get the road dust/dirt off. Just hose 'em off and the matte finish comes back to life. I don't like the overspray on my wheels so I cut a piece of cardboard the diameter of my wheel and hold it over the wheel and spray away.

 

Yeah but when tires get muddy, hard to get that stuff off to clean the tires. No thank you. Comet is doing a great job AND removes any stubborn tire dressing we all know is a bitch to get off.

Just my opinion......

 

I'm not following you... in my experience the tire dressing acts like a wax (note water beading in photos) and any mud, dirt, grime hoses right off. Anything that doesn't hose off takes a soft bristle brush and minimal effort to scrub off.

 

I dont see the pics but I know what your talkin about. Not saying the tire stuff doesnt keep tires clean or black. Just when they are dirty and mine often do riding around in the mud, once mud has dried and I have to scrub it off, the tire dressing is tough to get off along with the mud stain on the tire. Thats all. Not knockin what your doing with your tires bro.

Cleaned my tires the other day and took a pic for a diff post. Been ridin around the hunting club
the past 2 weeks. Tires were filthy. Comet cleans them right on up.
