Total Newbe here, which wax?

I'm buying my truck tomorrow morning, very excited!

Um, I've NEVER waxed my other vehicles except the soap with wax in it. Which wax do you recommend and how often?

The truck will either be Super White or Magnetic Grey Metallic if that matters.

I'm a fan of the "Ice" by TurtleWax... it doesn't leave a residue and if you are new to waxing like you say, it is a great beginners wax.

Meguiar's NXT. I use it about every 3-4 months. You can spend a ton on the "boutique" waxes but I would start with something off the shelf like Meguiars. The NXT comes off real easy.

minivan, I've had my truck 6 weeks and waxed it with Ice when I first got it and it still doesn't "need" another waxing, but I'll likely do it again in the next couple of weeks because she needs a good washing now anyway. I could probably go another month or two without really "needing" to though.

The good thing about the stuff is it is easy to apply and relatively inexpensive (about $18 a bottle and that should get you 15 waxes IMO).

One word of caution though, with all waxes, it is important that you dry the vehicle immediately after washing to there is no "film" or tried "spots" from the wash or the wax will seem to magnify it, haha.

Sounds silly I know. I haven't had a vehicle I loved since my '05 Civic coupe. I wanna take real good care of my new baby.

I definitely do not wax every time I wash.

Also, NXT seems to be popular (I still love the Ice though). This is to the NXT guys, do you have to put this on with a buffer/polisher, or is it easily applied like the "Ice"?

I'm new to waxing myself, thus the reason I am asking.

 

ice is great as a supplimental wax, not a primary wax.

maguires wax is good for maybe 2 weeks and its gone. thats not good.

the best wax is regular turtle wax in a green can for $3.18 at wally world.

To be honest, there really is nothing wrong the regular Turtle Wax. It's just not as easy to use and I don't feel it gives as good a shine as the Meguiar's products and I know it isn't as easy to work with. But, that's personal preference.

 

NXT goes on super easy and wipes the same with just a little elbow grease, no buffer needed.

 

I've used both NXT and Ice. Both are decent off the shelf waxes, but I give the edge to ICE since you can apply it in sunlight. NXT will still leave white residue on black trim if you get some on it. ICE can be applied on everything. Both last about the same amount of time. I wax my car 3-4 times a year so for ease of use, ICE wins again.

 

i use zymol lasts along time ,no swirl marks ,comes off really easy .if your gonna spend 30,000 dollars on a truck better buy something better than turtle wax.

 

Could you expand or somehow prove your statement about Meguiars waxes only lasting two weeks? I detail on the side and have use more brands than I can remember and try new products all the time and I always end back with Meguiars. If there waxes only lasted two weeks they wouldn't be in business.

 

A good wax only needs to be applied every 6 months. Turtle wax ice is honestly the best beginner wax out there. Be sure so do an exceptional job washing your truck before you wax... The wax only works on good clean paint. Everyone uses too much wax... go easy on it and you will be suprised!

 

how about a cleaner wax? rather than clay my entire truck before the waxing?

 

I've said it before...and my favorite three waxes still are:

• CSI Q-7 Wax (yes, my company sells this)
• Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax (like $5.99 at Autozone)
• Duragloss Aquawax (not as easy to find, but works great)

When you can spray and wipe ANY surface of my truck with no staining, there's not much reason for me to use anything else. Each of these last 2-3 months, depending on conditions and what you use to wash your paint (harsh detergents strip wax).

It takes me under 15 minutes to wax my entire truck with any of these products. So, while there are pastes and liquids out there that last longer, I am not interested in spending more time applying them and taking a chance that I will stain trim or leave crust somewhere.

Everyone has their own opinion...and I don't try to convince people to stop using their wax if they love it. But, if you hate doing circles with paste wax, try a spray that doesn't stain.
