I'm talking about putting the service stripe across the badge, like as seen below. looking for any one thats done the FF or PD stripe in the badge, I plan on doing it and am curious how if any were done like such and how they taped them

The easiest way is to paint it the color of the strip first. Then find some tape the size of the line you want and tape it strait across so you get a strait line, then paint it the black and peel off the tape

That will look excellent on black. I used duplicolor wheel paint, since its the same color that I'm painting my wheels:cool:

Great call on the blow dryer part! I tried without it and nearly tore my fingers open. One thing I found useful, especially if youre debadging your whole truck, is to wrap whatever fingers youre using to work the fishing line with duct tape. Makes it less painfull. Thanks for the great DIY!

Well I painted my buddies grille black for him with 3 coats of glossy black and then hit it with some clear coat afterwards. The clear coat turned the glossy black to dull/matte black and looked very milky and dusty. I didn't like it at all. I'm curious what I did wrong cause I did my emblems the same way and they turned out great! I plan on hitting it again tomorrow with just glossy black. Any other thoughts?

Badges are plastic if that's what you are asking if the badges would rust. The truck rusting would depend on if the paint is peeling or not

You have to use the clear within a certain time or after the paint fully cures, there should be the exact times on the back of the cans

Are you supposed to make sure all the wax and sealant in the area is removed before you re-stick them?

Make sure it dries completely first! And use a microfiber cloth, not a paper towel!

Ok so I did my grille flat balcony last night.. now I'm taking the badges off the truck and starting that process tonight.... If I understand correctly all I need to do is heat them a little get fish string, or something to peel them off then us alcohol and wd-40 to take the residue of but I want my my emblems to be flat black and I'm pretty sure that if I put some sort of clearcoat to seal itup that it will give it a glossy look...so is there anything I can use to seal up the paint?
