I was too buddy. Just tape a frame around the badge so you know where it goes. Granted you will most likely be driving around with tape for a day or two but it's worth it when you're done.

Now if only there were an easy way to install badges that were removed long ago in their appropriate spots...

I could possibly figure out some measurements...check back in a couple of weeks and I'll see what kind of visual aids for such a scenario I can come up with

Mine were removed for a couple of weeks before I painted them and put them back on. I merely referenced a few pictures of stock Tacomas before going back out to apply two lines of tape.

It doesn't have to be perfect. No one will notice if you're off by a 1/4" or so. Just lay down a horizontal strip of painters tape, and then a horizontal piece at the beginning to make a 90* angle. It's easy to get close to the original spot.

I had to redo the painting on a friend's Tundra badges. It looked bad and I volunteered to try to fix it. Not wanting to mess up my thumbs again getting the tape off the back I used the polishing wheel from my Dremel to get it off.
It can be done, just be careful. It gets hot quickly.

That's a pretty good idea. Dremel RPM's would make me nervous on paint though

excellent write up man! i've even referenced a few people to this thread. i ended up driving some with my tape too. got some weird looks, haha. but the only thing i did different was that i sanded the emblems a little to let the paint have some texture to hold on to and i recommend using a flat black if anyone does the toyota emblem in the grille.

Awesome! Glad to hear it. I got some weird looks for the tape as well haha. Sanding wouldn't hurt one bit. If the Plastic Bonding paint does what it's supposed to do, there shouldn't be a problem either way. I personally painted my grille emblem white and I like it better than black but that's just me.
