Clear Coat over Sliders?

I'm thinking about the best way to paint my avid sliders that are on the way.

Do you guys think I should put a clear coat over the truck bed coating?

It would go:
2 coats primer/light sand
3 coats truck bed coating
2 coats clear coat? (matte finish preferred)

What do you think?

 

wouldnt bother with the clear. shits gunna get scratched up and need repainting. no reason to make the process longer than it needs to be.

plus a clear coat will make repainting a bitch.

IMO, yes. For ease of application, and easy touch ups in the future.
The primer can be found in the automotive section at walmart, the bedliner(I prefer Duplicolor brand) can be found at kragen/oreiley's etc.

 

It's about $3 a can cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot for the exact same stuff at Oreileys. Make sure you do at least two thick coats. One coat comes off pretty easy.

 

I did 2 coats of self etching primer, then 3 coats of black matte paint

 

I used acetone (only thing they had) or use wax/grease remover/surface prep to wipe down the bars before primer. I also sanded the bars before primer and put on two coats. I used the Duplicolor Toyota Black from Oreilly's to paint them. matches my BSP pretty good.

Hanging them made it easier to paint all sides without waiting for drying to turn them over.
