Moisture under mats

I just bought a brand new Tacoma Access cab. Yes, it has been raining lately, but still, one should not find dampness under the floor mats in a brand new vehicle.

Has anyone else noticed this??

 

Is it under both front mats? Is the carpet really wet? If so I had the same problem with mine. Took it to the dealer and they found that the rubber seal on the back window was not installed right from the factory. Instead of the water staying outside of the truck, it was running down the rear of the cab and then running down the floor to the front floor mats. Carpet was all mildew underneath, so they replaced the entire carpet and install a new rear window seal. No problems since.

 

Some used to have issues with it getting in the fresh air thing in the cowl.

 

^ This. Could be the gaskets around the door too. I've seen this on my F250. It was also mentioned in another thread that your evaporator may be clogged. Not sure about that just bringing it up because someone mentioned it in relationship to damp carpets in these trucks. Hope you isolate the cause.

 

Lots of correct input so far. Look at your rear window seal, door seals, windshield seal, and check to make sure your AC drain (located on your firewall, near the passenger's side) is not clogged. One thing to look at also is that your fresh air intake drain is not clogged. Your fresh air intake area is the cowling at the bottom of your windshield. That vent looking thing is the inlet. There are two drains, one on each side of the truck, to drain off the water. If they are clogged, then rain builds up and eventually comes into your interior.
The best way to check for sure is look in the back floor area. Is it wet? Then you have a high chance(but not 100%) that you have back-glass problems. Is only the front wet on the passenger's side? High chance the AC evap drain is clogged, fresh air intake is clogged, or a windshield seal is leaking. Look underneath the dash area on the passenger's and driver's side. See how far up it is wet. If it is only wet low, then most likely it is a AC drain clog. Higher up chances are greater that your windshield or fresh air vet drains are the problem. Let us know what you find.

 

If it's just wet on your passenger side only (or mostly) it's more than likely a clogged AC evap. drain

If it's wet on both the driver and passenger side then it is most likely a windshield seal. There is a TSB for it (snowman has posted it several times, I'll look for it for you)

Whatever it is, it isn't normal. A 2012 should be under warranty, so just take it back to the dealer and ask them to investigate.
