Only for Tacoma's to 2004. The rear shocks are the same length for both sides on 2005 and up.

My pre Tacoma trucks were the same length both sides. The '99 had the drivers rear slightly longer. The '08 that I just had the install done on were the same length.

Anybody out there correct me if I'm wrong.

I might add that everybody seems to get different results with the TSB and what setting it takes to level the truck with the 5100's.

Where did you have it done and how much did it cost?

As a second question (maybe) has anyone had Les Schwab do the fronts?

I just want to level it out, not lift the whole truck. I have seen many posts here about the Bilstein 5100's and how much people like them. I'm thinking that's the way to go and that I might go with the +1.75 inch setting with my stock, un-updated rear suspension.

My question is about the ones that some people got from Downsouth Motorsports. The price is really good, but I wonder why the part numbers are different. What's the difference between the ones they sell (for Race Car Dynamics) and "regular" ones? Anything I should be aware of before purchase? How do they ride? How satisfied are you with your purchase from Downsouth? I'm thinking I will probably go with them, but just want to hear others' opinions first.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TW. The difference in the part number is due to the fact that the ones from Down South don't have a lifetime Bilstein Warranty. Other than the warranty they are the same as the other 5100s and Bilstein makes a solid product so you should be golden.

You can rent the spring compressers from any Auto Zone or Advanced Auto stores for about $40. You get your money back when you return them. Ends up costing you nothing.

That's a pretty dangerous proposition... I would recommend having it done somewhere so you don't end up killing yourself with a cheap rental spring compressor.

I've rented them twice. They are a pain in the ass to use but there are safety features built into them so they don't kill you.

Well to be 100% honest- ALL Bilstein shocks come with a limited lifetime guarantee from the manufacturer, NO MATTER WHO YOU BUY THEM FROM. What that means for all of us is that if there is a problem with the craftsmanship or A defect in the product Bilstein will replace it free of charge. However this DOES NOT COVER ABUSE!

Good morning,

This is Sonny....I am responding to the warranty question...
I spoke to Bilstein to confirm and all the Bilstein 5100 Series Shocks that we buy from RCD that are vehicle specific (Including the Pre-Load Adjustable)
are covered by Bilstein...5125 and 5150 Shocks are only warrantied by Bilstein for 90 days after original purchase because they are not vehicle specific in application....So yes the shocks sold by DSM who buys them from RCD are covered under the same warranty as Bilstein direct...

Thank you,
Sonny

Need Your Comment ?

Need your help and advise!

I just got imported to Europe -Tacoma '06 PreRunner SR5 2WD Double Cab. Unfortunatly here in Europe we do not have Tacomas on the market that is why I can't get advice here.
I am not sure what suspension is on my truck now ? The sticker on the side of the bed says TRD Off Road ? I am not sure cause shocks are not bilstein blue/yelow but shocks are black and I do not have alloy wheels, 115V/400-watt deck mounted power outlet, multi-function overhead console with compass and temperature gauge, engine skid plate? I am suspecting that it is stock regular suspension and somebody puted sticker on to show-off.
Now my rear Left rear shock leaked out so it got to be replaced. I want to replace all 4 shocks on to 5100 bilstein. I want to have comfortable ride, cause my previouse ride was Chrylser 300C. I want to have smooth and comfortable ride. I am not doing any crazy off-roading .I am using my truck on street in the city mostly and and wods(hunting), gravel roads for transporting my four wheeler(Suzuki LTZ400). I am not using truck to carry really havy loads on daily basic. What would you suggest ?

WOW europe! cool..sorry i had some kind of ADD kiddy moment. If you have the sticker listing the options that came with your truck, compare it to the toyota website for the US when you go to build your toyota. Your going to eventually have to use a US area code so put 91784, 90210, etc.. Take some pictures because it seems like somebody couldve just put a sticker on it. Just like mercedes dealers out here. Ive seen a brabus e500.. the brabus emblem added 500 extra bucks to it lol.

HAHAHAHA i know right? there needs to be at least one user from each continent on here. or country! but that would unlikely because i dont think they have tacomas in the north or south poles.. or antartica at least. unless it is running some high viscosity oil

I just ordered my 5100's from sonny, really good guy, he has good customer service and the communication is outstanding. I recommend everyone get their shocks from him, as well I am wondering if anyone could tell me how much they paid to have them installed. One of the local shops I went to quoted me at 2 1/2 hours for the front shocks alone, is this right?
