Anyone into the History Channel's Pawn Stars? Seems like every time I watch it I see a 2nd gen in the background. For example last night they took a Trail Breaker out wheeling and there was a sweet looking black Taco in the background. There's also usually one in the parking lot at the store too. I guess Taco owners enjoy a good deal on unique things?

I've been watching it ever since it started...every episode.

    Great show!!

If we ever get back to Vegas, I'm gonna personally visit that place. It's amazing how much cash flow they have in that place.

I'm told (by someone whom I trust to know) that the first couple episodes were real, with real customers. Since then every one of them has been staged, and the shop makes all it's money from the show.

They probably do stage a lot of them...If you notice, whenever there's a "hot" item, there's no one in the store looking at stuff. But if it's a cheap item, there's lots of people. I bet the "hot" items are staged, or else it's a real person and a real item that History Channel then decides they want to do a nice production on. Similar to how the local outside professionals on always right on cue!

I'm heading to vegas in a couple months...I know the address, but is it in a rough part of town??

My guess is that "staged" is a rough term, but that people with these big items want to be on TV, so they contact the show, shop gets cleared out, etc. And who cares how they make their money...that's just good business IMO. I love the show!

Exactly....It's entertainment. The stuff is interesting and you learn a bit about each item they feature (so to speak).

Perhaps it is staged.... because the stuff they sell at the pawn shop could've easily been sold on ebay or online for more money. Unless of course, these people are soooo desperate for money, that they can't wait.

It's in Las Vegas and the store is open 24 hours a day if that tells you anything.

I've got to DVR both of these .... although you know in the back of your head that it is somewhat staged it is entertaining.

The first time I had my doubts about Pawn Stars was when a guy pawned some Native American evil spirit thing ..... when he turned it in the base color was blue .... he picked it up and it was brownish ..... thanks to the DVR I could tell.

Now .... back to Tacoma World.

Rough part of town? It's on the north end of the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd) which means it gets patrolled pretty heavily. Metro PD keeps close tabs on the whole strip and Fremont St Experience for the sake of tourism.

People will come in with certain items. If they like the character and not their item, they will stick them with a nicer item and vise versa. Real but edited for ratings. I live in Vegas and have no desire to go there! :D
