I agree with most of what you said. But in the end, Shane has made some pretty tough choices that needed to be made. Like shooting the walkers in the barn for example, it needed to be done to show the people living on the farm that their family/friends have no hope of being saved and by keeping them in the barn they are just suffering more.

Yes but Shane also told Lori that her husband was dead so how was she supposed to know any different.

This is how I look at it from Lori's prospective. Her husband is dead. The world is FUBAR and people are trying to eat them. She has a kid that needs to be protected and she knows she can't do it alone. Of course she is going to turn to her husbands partner for protection and Shane just sweeps her off her feet so to speak because she feels secure being with him. That is how most women work lol out of sight out of mind.

    This^^^^

Shane is a liar, but in this situation, lying to her to get her safe was the best course. Even though he was really doing it for his own reasons.

X2 when Shane lied to her about Rick. He did the right thing there.

About Lori, she either hates (or cares for) Shane and is looking for ways to make Rick snap. I.E. that little talk she had with Rick in the tent. She wants Shane dead. If he's out of the picture, then she can forget about the whole thing.

I told my wife last night, "If the world goes to hell in a handbasket, you better bear witness to my dead body before you decide to bone one of my friends....otherwise zombies, aliens, or invading commies are going to be the least of your concern." In other words, she better damn assume I'm alive until she can confirm it.

    .
Shane did the right thing with the barn, it was a decision that would have had to been dealt with by Rick at some point, doing it Herschel's way was stupid. There has to be only one leader and Rick needs to get this bunch to be more disciplined if they want to survive. Lori never should have been allowed to leave by herself and people's egos are going to put people's lives at risk. That they still have to fear the living is as a cool plot twist to re-focus the story in a bit broader sense. My only fault with the writers is that the whole Shane thing is kinda stupid, he's acting like a four year old, the writing seems kind of forced, but i know the writers are trying to add more interest to the story.

Shane is impulsive and does not think of the repercussions of his actions. Sure, he protected Lori, but he had also left Rick behind to save his own ass. Then he jumped in bed with his best friends' wife, how many days later? He killed the walkers in the barn, not thinking of how it would affect their standing with the property owner.

Like the blonde said last night, he sometimes has the right ideas, but goes about them all wrong.

I dunno, but I think they should have left him for dead. Rick can't do that though. Eventually he will see he can't save everybody. Even Herschel wanted to leave him.
I think that is what makes this show so good. The good in people and how it conflicts with the "new world" they live in. Doing the decent thing in the "new world" isn't the right thing to do anymore.
What was it Herschel said "I think we need to put him down"
That would have been the right thing to do.

By simply leaving the kid for dead without trying to save him would have robbed them of whatever humanity they had left, in the face of chaos, it's your moral-compass that keeps you feeling human.

Agreed. This is Rick's dilemma, and what makes him a great leader. Shane just does what feels right, right now, no thought for the consequences, real or moral.
