Xbox Sideways or Standing??

Guys I am going to be purchasing the following TV stand today and I am just curious whether or not it would be ok if I placed my Xbox sideways in the area where the DVD player is? I currently stand my Xbox up but I really want to know if it is better to stand it up or lay it down!!!

I have mine on its side. I did scratch a few discs when it used to be upright. And I did red-ring about 1 year ago after having it on its side for about 2 years. But no issues so far this time around
