This is only possible on Black ops. Treyarc has really dropped the ban hammer on people for modding it, as i recall last week something like 50000 people got banned from the black op servers either just on their account or their PS3 entirely. It just depended on what they did.

A start......maybe. You never know what the future could hold for this stuff, but i doubt that it will be a problem in the future.

    I agree 277379531534984%

I think what he's referring to are the losers that have nothing to do in life but hack into a company's system. Unless there's something I'm missing, the only reason you would do something like that is A) just to say that you did [a great reason to do anything in life ] or B) to perform a criminal act.

To use your example, I personally don't care how YOU want to mod YOUR trick, but I do care when YOU start to mod MY truck

Im not a nerd at all and i modded my ps3. For me i did it to change things up to make it different. So i resent that comment. But i understand where your coming from, buy you need to understand that some people who do it like myself, want somthing to keep them entertained.

My stance is exactly what REX said in a previous post. I could give a rats ass what you do with your stuff. Its when what you do with your things interferes with my things is when I have a problem...

None, factory diff lockers are great.
Most of the "hackers" I know, inside the industry and out, have many better things to do than hack a system. Normally they will only attack a company's system when they get hired by company B to attack company A. It happens more than we'd like to believe. Or when company A hires them to try and get into their own system.

Personally I believe in option C) add functionality that makes the product more useful and user friendly.

As for messing with someone else's truck. I totally agree. That would not be cool if I decided the truck parked next to me needed it's diff breather moved but if I figure out how to do that (or hack a PS3) I believe it would benefit the community to put the knowledge out there and let people do what they believe is best.

We're talking about two different reasons for hacking. As for improving a product, I have nothing against that. However, if you want to make a PS3 that does backflips by itself, do it, what the hell do I care. The kind of hacking I have a problem with is when you start to make MY PS3 do backflips.

In other words, hack it for YOUR OWN good. DON'T do it to affect others, as in screwing my system up, stealing my personal info, etc.

Hacking a computer is like using a knife or a gun. It can be used for good or bad.

The original jailbreak was devised to allow to run homebrew code and not allow piracy. Some jackasses out there utilized the code to create a DNS/proxy hack and gained access to the PSN to play some games they didn't buy. The servers they were using have now been blocked by Sony and you must run FW3.56 to get back on the network not FW3.55. FW3.56 uses new unknown encryption key that is protected in much more sophisticated ways, so no worries about it being hacked as of now. Though IT security is just a temporary state.
Also, the worst that could happen to you was that someone could steal your stats not your PII or screw up your system.
