U gotta remember books 4 and 5 Happen at the same time. Just with different pov from each book. One book deals with certain characters while the other deals with the other characters. That's one reason why it seems accelerated for one story line and lagging for the other

A lot has to do with story timing as well. I don't KNOW the story since I haven't read the books, but the question I would ask is does the story of Bran occur AFTER the story of Jon, or at the same time, just in a different book (It happens a lot in book series)

the current jon stuff (plus more) happened in book 3. neither of them are in book 4 (aside from a talk with jon via sam's perspective). i know the sam/bran stuff happened in 3, but since i havent made it back to book 5 yet, i dont know where they left off w/ bran in 3. lots of walking in snow for bran (and other small happenings) before bran makes it to the cave in book 5.

I wasn't sure, that is why I asked. Granted I get that Bran spent a lot of time in the snow, and I know a lot of different things have happened in the book that didn't make it to the show. Obviously if they did the books verbatum there might be a lot of boring stuff. I can read a single storyline in a book for pages and pages, but in a movie, when you have some 6 or 8 storylines, the general public starts asking a lot about "well what is going on with Mr XYZ? I haven't seen him in 3 or 4 episodes." You know what I mean? In order to keep a television audience captivated, you have to keep the action going, and keep all the storylines active, or fans get bored. It is a lot different than in a book. Heck, a book writer is happy if he sells a million books. When it comes to TV shows, sponsors want to see 4 or 5 million viewers every week. It is a whole nother world!

Lord of the Rings for example is a good example. When I was in the theatre watching I think the 2nd one, it was great, but the end kept on going and going and going. People actually began to groan out loud because they were ready for it to be over, even though we all loved it.

the problem with this series is that cutting out and advancing so much, they are going to run out of source material. when that happens and no more books are publicly out yet, i don't see them going ahead with random stuff simply based off GRRM's direction. i also don't see them using dialogue/events in the show that haven't been released from the books yet.

Actor J. J. Murphy dies after beginning filming for Game of Thrones season 5.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the eighty-six-year-old thespian had been cast as Ser Denys Mallister, the “oldest member of the Night’s Watch”. He passed just four days after filming his first scenes for the series.

In an official statement from HBO, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have announced, “We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended.”

I must have missed the 4th. I'll look tomorrow.

This season seems to foreshadow the dragons
