:yay:Its like the one show on TV that I watch religiously! Had a rough season last year with the damn "minisodes" due to writers strike.

We watch it at the firehouse when not out on calls, for those of you non-firefighters, you would be amazed how close to reality some of the daily antics that go on around the station are. Of course many other things are way over dramatized.:)

Our job is fully career,200 or so members,I'm in my 21st year......I get a kick out of Rescue Me,but don't get a chance to watch very often. An interesting fact is that Dennis Leary is a big time supporter of FF's.He once said that if he wasn't a comedian,he'd have liked to play in the NHL or be a FF.He's from Worcester MA,and his cousin Jeremiah Lucey and childhood friend Lt.Tommy Spencer were two of the six guys killed in the warehouse fire in Dec.'99......I had the honor of attending the Worcester 6 memorial a couple of days after the fire.

Dude, you're young and it's worth it....If you go to school, work and train hard, yes there is still a possibility of not making it.If you don't try, you're guaranteed not to make it.

I'm a paid/professional firefighter. We've got about 500 members in our Dept. There are volunteer departments in the county, but they cover the same area as the paid engines. They are extra help/backup.

Yes it is very tough to get a job, but if you set your mind to it, you can do it. EMT and Fire school took 1 year and I spent a year and a half looking for a job.
When I got hired, the county had over 400 applicants for 23 positions.
The youngest guy to get hired was 20. The oldest was 42.
21 is definitely not too late to start.

This is, without a doubt, the greatest job in the wolrd.
I'm actually at work right now :D
Before anyone makes any accusations I'd just like to state for the record that I just got back from a brush fire and I do NOT sit around on the computer trolling TW all day.... just most of it:D

Atta boy,go get 'em.....They need to hire someone, why not you?As far as side jobs go,I've dabbled in a couple of things and owned my own biz for seven years. Now it's strictly the job and raising three kids.:D

The requirements are different from state to state. If you know anyone who is a firefighter in you're state they are probably the person to ask. If not go talk to a community or technical college.
I'd assume by now no matter what you're going to have to be an EMT which is a nationally recognized certification, but the fire certification is what varies from state to state. Here in Florida it's called minimum standards which is broken down into Fire standards 1 and 2 and is a 6 month course.

Both classes should result in a certification.
The fire classes that you posted look like an intro to a fire science degree.
