"I said what I meant, and I meant what I said!" - What an idiot. That lady deserves to have some sort of crime committed against here, and then have her own police force refuse to chase the fleeing suspect.

i dont know the real reasoning behind the banning of foot pursuits...however if it really was because she had officers getting hurt...then i can completely understand her trying to find some way to prevent them from getting hurt

when we're hurt...we cant be out on the road preventing crime

HOWEVER there are much better ways of fixing that

my department went with the taser approach...we decided that tasers would keep us from having to go "hands-on" as much with a subject and subsequently...it prevents us from getting hurt

we also are one of the top 2 departments in the state as far as training goes and we are held to a much higher physical standard than state requirements

better training and better equipment = less injuries to officers

She's a freaking moron. Not just her outlook on this matter but wow. He didn't twist her words at all. He gave her a hypothetical situation and she blew up. WTF is going on in the world today??

for the record...the town of Wellford is TINY...it made a lot of news...however the impact it made in the upholding of law in SC was minimal

there was a guy from wellford in my class at the academy...their crime rate is NOT high at all

I come from a town that had very low crime too (at the time they were paid more than NJ State Troopers and drove turbo volvos for a while (too tight for belts, guns, etc)) and one of their problems was too many doughnuts! ;) and not enough physical fitness! :)

I'm sure my hometown still pays a lot. To think that they get paid more than a police officer that is required to sleep on the barracks while on duty, get shot by tobacco smugglers, etc.... Just makes one wonder.
