There was Supersize Me a few years ago, where Morgan Spurlock ate only McDonalds for a week and got pretty sick...

For anyone into this kinda stuff check out a couple books... The Omnivore's Dilema and Fast Food Nation...

That's the kind of movie I avoid... I eat various foods. None of them have made me sick, and none of them have prevented me from getting into better shape. As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't make me sick, I don't really want to see it being made.

I know people who won't eat ice at restaurants b/c they're convinced that the bucket used to transport the ice from the ice machine into the drink machine is filthy-nasty. Maybe it is... but not once has if affected me.

Yea...I know every time I watch Supersize Me, I get really hungry for McDonalds, even though the whole point of the movie is how bad it is...

Yeah... I think the message w/ that move is 'everything in moderation.' Eating McDonalds for every meal for a month is just a stupid idea, and in no way prevents me from eating it as often as I do (which is about once/month).

Man, If I sat back and worried about everything I ate I wouldn't eat anything. I know Taco bell uses grade C meat, I know the occasional burger gets served after hitting the ground, do I really care? NO, as long as I don't see anything to make me suspicious I eat it. And it gets extra points for being tastey. And do you honestly think that organic food is really any different? they don't use chemical fertilizer so they use cow/horse manure, which could get you sick from E Coli. I agree with MWS4UA, If it tastes good and doesn't get me sick then I will eat it, otherwise I don't need to know how chicken nuggets are made(these too are tastey and shall continue to be consumed).

    to each his own.

if people wanna turn and look the other way, that's fine by me. maybe it hasn't made any of us sick yet, but with the increasing amount of food recalls like ground beef and the numerous outbreaks of e. coli on food like spinach, who's not to say that its only a matter of time?

supersize me was kinda gay because of course if youre gonna eat fast food every day for an entire month straight you're just asking for trouble

im gonna try to go organic or local as much a possible but i know it won't be easy. i used to frown on organic foods before because i'd be in the store and see regular tomatoes for 0.99/lb, and organic tomatoes for 2.99/lb, and i'd be like WTF? but now i understand why. i also understand why mass-produced conglomerate foods tend to be way cheaper than locally produced foods

until the day i see recalls and outbreaks coming from local and organic food companies, i'll sleep better at night knowing that i'm putting quality fuel into my own family's bodies.
if and when that day comes, i guess we're all screwed. i'll have to quit my job and become my own farmer. :D

EDIT: i stand corrected and i eat my freaking words.

just stumbled on some articles about the recent recall on peanut butter and peanut products early this year due to salmonella, and low and behold, what do i find on the recall list? -- clif bars. "the leader in all natural and organic energy", and tons of crap from whole foods market "selling the highest quality natural and organic products"

    man.

i'm running out of options here.

    :tumbleweed:

    anybody selling a used tractor?

So...is everybody going to turn into hippies? I'm so sick and tired of this "organic" craze. Are pesticides used in the production of vegetables ever going to hurt you? No. Is the production of food "gross"? Yes. But necessary steps are taken everyday to protect the people who eat those food products. Do you know why? Because everything is based on a CYA way of thinking. The only way to cover your ass is to do things right. As a person who not only works in the food industry, but has a lot of spare time to watch documentaries...there are always two ways of thinking. Just because it is a documentary, doesn't make it wholeheartedly true.

To those of you who think that "organic" foods will always be better, let it be known that "organic" is simply a term of production, not a term of health or even safety. Anything can be labeled as "organic". There are no regulations for that label.

I know this is an old thread but I just watched this today and it is ridiculous. The way our politicians have integrated with the fda, and the policy changes and patenting of genetically modified foods, and destroying people's lives. The way fast food is subsidized giving low income families no options.

Horrible. Every American should watch this.
