stand up i have increased the life of my box 3 fold by keeping it in an upright position. To much heat build up when flat imho.

I have mine on its side. I did scratch a few discs when it used to be upright. And I did red-ring about 1 year ago after having it on its side for about 2 years. But no issues so far this time around
