Besides losing your stats, this could open up and whole can of network security worms.

Many of my friends got their ps3 hacked about a month ago. I always knew their platform was easy to hack.

Being pulled into a hacked server could open the door for the rest of your gamer profile and home network getting hacked.

Its called jailbreaking. Ive done this to my ps3 in order to run my own homebrew apps and not the sony stuff. Its a lot nicer when you can customize the ps3 to your liking. yes ive even got a modded MW2 file, but i dont screw with anyone like other people, i actually hook people up and make fun lobbys. Sony is just a big baby that they cant figure out how to stop this. But they need to undrtstand they cabt ever stop it, there will always be hackers out their. On a side note...if you want to see what a nice hacked lobby on mw2 and want to jist mess around send a friends request to my psn, which is snowgod06.

This is retarded... I am not quite sure what pleasure people get out of hacking computers/gaming systems? It doesn't provide any benefit other than just fucking everyone's world.

Entry into your home network via your connected PS3 would be my worry.

I have a firewall at the entry point to my entire home LAN because of this very scenario.

    I'll be impressed when a guy with a PS3 plays against a guy with a 360. Now that's a hack.

They should just fucking do that anyway. I am pretty sure the systems could do it, but Sony nor Microsoft would ever let it happen. there would no longer be a benefit of one system over another, besides exclusives. Well, I guess that's kind of how it is now

True, but the games are wrote in different styles which in order for them to be able to work together they have to be written some what the same. Its an open topic on the net that i always see people talking about.

Game stats are important if you play online. If you use matchmaking, it keeps you playing with people at your skill level, not way above or way beneath. It's a major annoyance to go beat a game and get all the accomplishments for it and then have someone erase everything.

I could care less if people want to hack their consoles. My iPod is jailbroken. So long as someone elses hacked machine doesn't interfere with what I'm trying to do.

None, factory diff lockers are great.
People can say the same thing about modifying a vehicle but yet many people on this forum take great pride in making their vehicle perform over and above the constraints originally set by ToMoCo. Anytime DRL, anytime locker, yellow wire mod, gray wire mod, etc are all the product of hacker mindsets.

The hack has very little to do with screwing with other people or piracy for that matter. It is more about gaining control of a product you own to run homebrewed code or enable a feature that may have been taken away by Sony after you purchased the device (OtherOS).

We can mod our trucks without ToMoCo's approval so why can't we mod our consoles or any other product we purchase? An iOS device is a great example. I have far more functionality from unlocking and JB the device than would have ever been allowed by ATT & Apple.

Will I JB my PS3 as I have done to my iPhone? Probably not, but it's good to know that there is a community is out there fighting against the arbitrary constraints that a corp places on its products in order to protect its bottom line.

You should be just fine with no worries, so far the only thing you can do to someone elses system from another PS3 is just freeze it and force a reboot. They cant actually log into your network and take control of things. If ya want i can show ya the whole freeze PS3 thing. :D
