I wanted to Start this for people that had a questions about a tool they were looking for or on they are planing to buy and the members on here can give some advice on what to buy. Also Its one thread so we wouldn't have to start an new one each time we had a question about tools.

I'll Go first.

I'm looking for a cut off (Chop saw) That can cut metal. The ones I have been looking at are DeWalt so far. I need some help on what I should be looking for. Also could you just use a compound miter saw and just swap the wood cutting blade for an abrasive cut off wheel or is a chop saw more powerful?

Thanks For the help

Hey fellow TW'ers i am in the market for a new Cordless Drill!!

I want some opinions as to which are the best but i have some critirea!!

I need this for work so i want it to be light since i work in ceilings and cramped places so also a built in light is a plus...i will be using it for wood, metal, and concrete so it has to be powerful, have a 1/2" chuck and would really like it to be a hammer drill too.. and finally a lot of my jobs are done in a short time frame but with a lot of road time so i can't charge extra batteries for a long time so LOOONG battery life is a HUGE plus...

It is going to be a Li-Ion drill because they are a lot better than Ni-Cad's(last longer and are lighter) and the two i have been considering the most are Makita's white one with the 18v Li-Ion w/ hammer drill too and the DeWalt LXT one w/ hammer

Buut i am open to everyones opinion and really want some feedback from people who have nice cordless drills and want to share their Pros and Cons about their drills..

but please if you are going to post things like "*insert brand* rule!!!!!1!"
or "i have *insert brand* and i love it!" please tell me why!

i need a good one for work and its a lotta moola so i want to know what people i trust (you guys...i know...WEIRD isnt it?:D) and who use them a lot think!

THANKS!!

ps..this will also help me mod the tacoma a little more efficiently ;)

I thought I'd write up a fun project that I did to enhance my beer fridge.

Step 1: Get a beer fridge. I have the old one from the house (we put in stainless about 9 months ago).

Step 2: Stock said fridge with lots of beer.

Step 3: Drink said beer. (This is the best step)

Step 4: Save all of your beer caps till you have a bunch to choose from.

Step 5: When sober, prep a workspace with the following:
-Cardboard
-Hot Glue Gun
-Utility knife
-Bottle Caps
-Small Round Magnets (that will fit into each cap)

Step 6: Cut small squares of cardboard to fit into a beer cap.

Step 7: Take a beer cap and squirt some hot glue into the cap - then quickly add a cardboard square. Set aside to cool and let glue set.

Step 8: Add glue to top of cardboard square that you previously glued into the cap - quickly adding the magnet. Set aside to cool and let glue set.

Step 9: Complete all caps you want in the same manner.

Step 10: After allowing beer bottle cap magnets to cool, attach to said beer fridge.

Step 11: Collect new beer caps.

I currently have 58 different caps on my fridge and I'll be looking to add more as I go.

Enjoy!

Back in June, we moved in to a new-to-us house. I finally got my two car garage (which if currently full of crap). The brilliant folks that built this place only put two 15 amp outlets in the garage, right next to each other and tied to the outlets in the bathrooms. As you can imagine that would not do. I couldn't run the welder or compressor.

I decided to take matters in my own hands and remedy the situation.

The plan is for 2 separate, 20 amp circuits and roughly 15 outlets including 2 on the ceiling for cord reels. I also plan on running as much as possible down through the walls from the attic to minimize drywall work (I hate drywall work). I got one of the circuits done the other night. Today I ran the welder and compressor without a hiccup.

Many thanks to Pdopy3 for his advice and guidance.

The first outlet, GFCI, of course.

As I worked down the wall, I had to cut in to some drywall, there was no access from the attic at the door end of the garage. I carefully cut out sections of drywall, notched the studs for the wire and covered it with metal plates. The drywall sections popped right back in.

Between the doors, I installed a surface mounted double outlet, the conduit also runs to one of the ceiling outlets.

Two orange lights, good stuff.

While this is fine temporarily, i was looking into the rockymounts clutch sd bed rail mount. This is a great idea, but it's $54 not including shipping?! that seems a little much for one mount. Anything else i should consider or is this worth the money? thanks for all input guys

But our local Home Depot has the ClosetMaid brand Maximum Load cabinet's, designed for the garage, for 50% off. I picked up 4 cabinets for the front of the garage, normally $147 each, on sale for $73. http://www.homedepot.com/Storage-Gar...atalogId=10053

They had the base cabinets and large upright 2 door cabinets as well, all 50% off.

They can be mounted using the Utili-track style system or directly to the wall. I choose directly to the wall to avoid spending another $100 on the tracks, which I won't use for anything else.

Attn: Maryland Taco Owners!! Save $25 on Trees

Basics: Now, I'm not a tree-hugger per say, other than my participation in the Tread Lightly program, but for those of you that plan on planting a tree this fall anyway - or for those that might want to plant one....

I got an email today from the state which basically says that if you buy and plant a tree (that's on the list and from a participating nursery or retailer, and pay more than $50 for) you can save $25 bones.

From the Governor:

"Forests are our most strategically important natural resource. Trees protect water quality, clean our air and provide wildlife habitat. One large tree can eliminate 5,000 gallons of stormwater runoff each year, and well placed trees can help reduce energy costs by 15 to 35 percent.
Trees also enhance our quality of life, beautifying neighborhoods and highways, providing sound barriers and shade, and helping increase property values.

Today the State of Maryland is partnering with businesses, communities and citizens like you to help fund and plant new tree cover. Our State agencies are working to plant 1 million new trees by 2011, and we’re asking private citizens to join us by planting 50,000 trees by 2010.
Explore this website for advice on where, how and what type of trees to plant, and discount coupons – made possible through environmental mitigation fines and participating vendors -- for your tree purchases. Then, come back and register the trees you’ve planted, site them on our interactive map and calculate their benefits to you and our planet!
Working together as One Maryland, we can not only preserve our remaining tree cover but grow new trees to create a smarter, greener State for our planet and for future generations."

Governor Martin O’Malley
