Thats what I was hoping. I guess I'll have to take a look at it. So you replaced some of the steering on your buddies FJ? I am trying to figure out if we could do it ourselves.

That is true! I hear they pay you well for plasma donations and they love college kids.

 

So there is a bent passenger side steering knuckle, the dealership wants 650.00$ for the part, 390.00$ for labor and then 60.00$ for the alignment. We are pretty sure that that isnt the only problem but they want to fix that and then see what else is bent. When we were wheeling he made a hard hit and tweaked the whole passenger side tire outwards and lost some of his lift so I dont think it is just a bent steering knuckle. Has anyone replaced one? and does anyone know where I can get one bseides through Toyota.

 

And also, is the steering the same from Taco to FJ? We found a knuckle for much cheaper for the Taco.

 

The knuckles are not the same.

 

You occasionally can find used ones on the fj forums but its kind of hit or miss on whether they're already bent or not. Look for someone that has recently gone 6 inch lift as they won't need their stockers anymore.

Has anyone actually used one of these?

I have one for a dirt bike, but those are lighter and far less leverage. I would think this would kinda be too much for a FJ suspension... or even a tacoma

 

that would be sketchy in my opinion. you can get a flip bed trailer for snowmobiles used for like 500 bones any where and it holds two quads

 

I would probably just buy a little trailer as well. I personally am getting a 3 rail for our dirt bikes in the next month or two. A short bed Tacoma and an FJ don't have near enough room for 3 bikes.

 

It is possible to get 3 bikes in a shortbed tacoma, just put a cinderblock standing up in front of the middle bikes tire, or put the middle in backwards. Use a few extra tiedowns if you put it in backwards to tie it back to the cab.

 

Just traded my 08 Taco in for it. Haven't been able to play with it yet though b/c I just had suregery on my shoulder. Will get pics posted once I'm able to get out and about.

 

the longer i own it, and haven't even been "real" offroading yet, the more I appreciate the FJ. the comfort for long trips, the space, the build QUALITY (japan), and the overall completeness. pickups aren't purpose built for offroading, and jeep JKs are of such LOW overall quality (i ad a JK unlimited for a bit) that the FJ really stands out - of course you already know this...


the # of FJ Cruisers in my neighborhood is impressive. i think we have almost 10 in a 7x7 blocks of SF

 

I may be joining the FJ crowd soon.
