Get it if you want it. I don't use mine too often but when I do the truck is stressed less because you don't have to mash it to get through the obstacle. If all you do is simple dirt roads then don't get it.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I drive around in 2wd 99% of the time but when I do need it, it's there. The great thing is that it's there at the turn of a knob when you need it.
So is the turning of the knob the same on the FJ as it is on the Taco?

I wouldn't get the 4x4. There's like 3 extra zerk fittings you have to grease. Totally not worth it.

I had my truck for 6 years and I never absolutely needed 4x4. "Why?" you may ask. It's because: driving skills>4x4. If 4x4 was necessary, it wouldn't be optional. For mild off-roading, you should be fine.

I drive off-road for work a lot. All of our trucks are 4x4. The only time I've ever used it was when I did something dumb.

Didn't realize this was the FJ forum...No it's not the same. The FJ is a manual transfer case. The 4runner however, is the same.

Yea I'd realize that I probably may never need it but just having 4x4 gives the peace of mind. Not only that but it gives me an excuse to venture out further and take it places where I couldn't go before. I know I'll want to find a place where I can take it to the sand dunes, etc...

Im thinking 4x4 equates to Fun!

I drive malls for work a lot. All of our trucks are 4x4. The only time I've ever used it was when I thought my driving skills were good.
