Look at the aerobio aeropress. I've seen some good reviews on it. If I didn't already have a lightweight percolater I would give it a try.

That name rings a bell. may have checked it out at REI before. only reason i was hoping to get the jetboil one was because it fits inside the canister itsself, so it doesn't take up any extra room. then again, i'm not using it for backpacking, so the extra item isn't a big deal i gues. i'll look it up.

I kind of wish I had gotten the Jetboil due to the different attachments. Although its kind of big for backpacking. Liking the MSR Pocketrocket so far.

exactly, I don't do a lot of backpacking. most of my hikes are out and back in a day, or sometimes camping one night, so the larger jetboil is no big deal. plenty of space in the offroad trailer :p

my old roommate uses the pocketrocket though and likes it. he backpacks a fair amount and is a total weight-weenie when it comes to his gear.

Weight is becoming one of my priorities since I try to hike with a full size tripod and DSLR.

Ready for it to cool down again so I can start hitting the trail.

if i get more into longer distance and duration hiking i'll buy up a bunch of light weight gear for sure. i've done portions of the AT, but never too far at a single time. friend of mine hiked the entire thing all at once, going south to north. i'd like to try that in a couple years when i have the vacation time built up.

get a carbon fiber tripod and you won't even know it's there. camrea on the other hand, you just have to deal with. My dad is a professional photographer, and is a big boater and skier. always has his cameras with him. he's cut down the accessory weight but short sacrificing and going with a smaller lense or lower MaH batter pack, you won't save much on the camera itself.

My brother and his wife tried a through hike last year from south to north and were doing great but about 1/3 of the way through he screwed up his knee and it never got better so they had to stop. They went ultralight with some crazy shit, using custom made packs out of some sailboat material, a custom built tarp with bug netting instead of a tent, he built a mini alcohol stove to use that was like 1/4 the weight of a pocket rocket and used little bottles of alcohol for fuel. I think his pack was like 18lbs and hers was like 15lbs.

Any home owners out there, make sure you know where your water shutoff is to your house and any tools you may need to access it in an instant. Couldn't find my channel locks to kill it at the meter and in the frenzy forgot about the gate valve outside. Had water running for 4-5minutes out of a broken pipe (thanks to complete failure to glue cpvc properly by the builder). Finally got it shutoff at the house water filter when I came to my sense.

TLDR: Water running from a supply line under my kitchen sink for 5 minutes and now 14hours into replacing roughly 400sqft of flooring in my house.

edit: while you're at it, make sure you know where your natural gas shutoff is for the same reason and show your spouse as well.

aparently that's the only way to go if you're gonna do the whole thing.
my buddy that did it didn't even carry a real hiking pack. he just used a waterproof pack smaller than what you'd bring to school. he fit a pocket knife, collapsed rifle, small box of ammo, a flint, and one of those water purification straws in it. he would hunt with the rifle or trap all of his food. every week his wife would meet up with him and refill his ammo if needed, and give him a change of clothes.

he's crazy though. highly trained survivalist. works for a company that trains special forces guys out of DC, so he's definately not the norm when it comes to finishing the AT.

Damn dude that sucks. Insurance will cover it right?

Haha ya that's pretty hardcore. They just brought small collapsible fly rods and fly fished for food most of the time.

Cats and cat accessories in tact!

I thought about claiming, but I had the flooring left over from when I did the entire house 2 years ago. So it's just time, hopefully I can finish in the next few hours...last night and this morning have been pretty productive. Only thing this cost me was time, and a $15 trip to Taco Bell to feed my awful habit of "I'm pissed off, I need Taco Bell".
