I've done that before also. The hardest part is making sure the damn thing stays upright.

I got one of the racks that holds the beer and the chicken upright for cooking. I usually season the bird with herbs de provence and then cook it on the grill. The rack also works good for cooking the chicken on the smoker.

Had this for the first time last summer. A buddy of mine cooked one on the smoker while we were out camping. Damned good yard bird!

I've got a beer can chicken cooker thingie. Has the center section for the beer and a moat around the outside. I put a beer in the middle area, another in the moat along with a can of chicken broth and onions and garlic. I stuff the chicken with diced onion and garlic and a shitload of butter. I put Tony Chaceries on the outside liberally. Last 15 minutes spray it with spray butter to give it the final crisp.

All you have to do is use the beer and the two legs and there goes your tripod to keep it up. I have cooked so many of these things and have never had an issue with it falling over

I have the rack. Nice and stable. I dry rub mine 24hrs before. Then put a Dales Pale Ale up it's keister, stuff a potato in it's neck hole(my theory is it helps hold that moisture in it's cavity), and bake away. The juice is loose.

Yeah, I think it tastes better smoked but the grill is so much faster that I usually end up cooking it on there.

I had one fall over once, someone bumped the grille. It still turned out alright, but there was a pretty strong beer taste in that bird Wouldn't be hard to make one, a steel sleeve and couple horizontal pieces to keep it upright.

You know those times when someone goes way off topic and just way over the top?
