yea,.. i get my cayenne ground for me at a local place.
i like spices..but i rarely use garlic powder. maybe in meat rubs.
try fresh ground stuff..if you like spices, you owe it to yourself to try. you end up using alot less, because the flavors are really much more powerful. and i bloom everything first. blooming is either warming it in oil..or dry roasting it.
i picked this up with my Indian friends back in college. and trust me, Indian folks. their superpower is spices.
