yea,.. i get my cayenne ground for me at a local place.

i like spices..but i rarely use garlic powder. maybe in meat rubs.

try fresh ground stuff..if you like spices, you owe it to yourself to try. you end up using alot less, because the flavors are really much more powerful. and i bloom everything first. blooming is either warming it in oil..or dry roasting it.

i picked this up with my Indian friends back in college. and trust me, Indian folks. their superpower is spices.

I agree 100% on that they are better. It's hard to tell from the picture but a couple bottles have things written on them. It's homemade blends just in recycled bottles. We grow a variety of peppers throughout the year and dry and ground them up and mix and match.

I guess the Skybox (at Aria Casino) in Vegas closed, but they had the firecracker burger. Infused with bhot jolokia (ghost peppers). Finish it for a free beer. First bite, fine and tasty. Second bite, watering eyes. Third bite, body shakes and sweats. I had to finish without putting it down, or I wouldn't have finished. I guess the last two people to eat it were food editors and had to call in sick the next day. That night, my colon understood why....

I like intense flavors, so I like heat, but if it's mouth-numbing there's no point. If it just feels like I burnt my mouth on hot soup after I ate it, it's too hot. Chipotle Tabasco is my favorite condiment - the combo of smokiness, heat and sour is perfect.

Been trying out some peppers we've bought from local grocery stores.. Hyvee, schnucks, and walmart. Walmart's peppers were a joke. IMO

Hyvee and schnucks were ok.. but nothing hot. Any tips or website for growing your own? Haven't ever considered it but I would be open to it.

The hot peppers need a long growing season with lots of sun. Use well drained rich soil. Peppers towards the end of the year tend to be hotter than those first picks of the season. I have never had luck at planting my own seeds of any kind of vegetable so I usually try to buy some nice healthy looking plants at a green house. The big box stores are ok too but sometimes they label the plants wrong. Some are no brainers others are not.

Lulz, I can't handle spicy at all. Even stuff that most people can eat, I'll be sweating and my face will turn red. It doesn't bother my bowels at all, but my initial reaction to eating spicy food is rather comical. I can't even handle hot sauce from Taco Bell, or hot fries.
My Uncle Gooberhead makes deer chili all the time, and he likes to throw ghost peppers and Trinidad scorpion peppers in it. (He has a couple plants of each in his back yard, next to the flower bed where he keeps his turtles.) With it being in chili, it's probably not as bad as it would be regular- supposedly them scorpion peppers pack the heat of 400 jalapenos.

I like habañero-infused IPAs

Big fan of jalapeños. I can eat them on almost anything, and my buddy's neighbor used to grow his own cayenne peppers which he'd give to me in bundles. Man, those were so good! That's about as hot as I can tolerate.
