I'm down with bourbon and whisky, still don't have a taste for scotch.

Oban 14-year, Auchentoshen 3-wood, MacAllan 18-year. Like someone said, great for drinking in the winter, preferably in front of a wood-burning fireplace. Nothing closer to heaven.

Agreed but too pricey. Gold is the best value of all the JWs. Not as good as blue but less than half the price and it is way smoother and sweeter than the rest of the line up, not to mention most other scotch's.

    back to bone stock.
my go to daily (we really shouldnt have a go-to DAILY scotch) scotch is JW black label. it is flavored better than the blue or the gold. it taste like scotch. not as smooth, but the flavor is there.

if you guys ever get the chance, do that Johnny walkers, "keep walking" tour. you get to taste them all. back to back, the black label is the best bang for the buck.

I was just in Scotland a few weeks ago and i toured the about 15 different distilleries and some of them were glenfiddich, glenlevit, chivas, glenmoray, and a lot of other ones. Its all amazing stuff. I brought back a bottle of 100 pipers which is one of my favorites. The cask strength stuff is like firewater. Too potent for me. Fiddick 18yr is really really good!

A friend did some roof work that was pretty extensive and all he asked in return was a nice bottle of Bourbon, I did a bit of research and came up a 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle. Let's just say he was more then happy.

The 20 year old stuff just got released and is less then half the cost of that bottle and supposed to be almost as good.

    Cheers

Pappy is supposed to be top of the line stuff but I can't find any down here. I'll have to make it to an Irish pub and try out a couple different scotches one of these days.

Go visit your local Costco (assuming they sell the hard stuff). They take Macallan scotch, re-label it as Kirkland Signature 18 year old whiskey and then sell it for less than half of what you'd pay for Macallans. I'm pretty sure it's the real deal (there seems to be some debate about it). Even if it's not, it's still a damn good deal!

    http://scotchaddict.com/macallan-18-year-as-costco-kirkland-brand.html

I've also read that Trader Joe's does the same thing. Although I've never seen nor tasted it. It could be worth checking into.

And just to add... Kirkland Vodka is relabeled Grey Goose. I've even heard they filter it once more before bottling it and putting the Kirkland label on it. :woot:
