for hot brewed, I use the Aeropress...awesome device.
I use it for both espresso and med grind.

Every few days, for my main "everyday" brew, I will cold brew about 2 qts in a lg glass container. (4.5oz coffee to 2 qts of water, let sit anywhere from 12 to 24 hours)

i dilute it 50/50 for hot and full for iced.

if you don't like the acidic tendencies of hot brewed coffee, or even if it is harsh on your stomach....try cold brewing. It completely eliminates the acidic feel and taste of hot brew.
makes for a super smooth cup of joe.

So room temp or refrigerator for 12 to 24 hrs?
Then pour it through a filter I assume?

most times i only let it sit for around 12 hr, but i forgot about it for 24 and it tasted just as good. i am not sure you can over brew it this way.

    room temp.

i use a couple things to "filter it" after it is finished.

here is the stuff i use:

the bag (plastic mesh) makes it easier to get most of the grounds out without having to filter everything. you can squeeze the crap out of that bag to get all the brew out without filtering the oils.

for a filter, i use the cheese cloth.
found some at bed, bath, and beyond.
    9sqft for $5 (i think).

you could prob do without filtering, because the fine stuff will settle to the bottom. I filter mine with the cheese cloth, although it does not get the really fine stuff.
fold the cheese cloth over about 4 layers thick.

it also helps to have another person or use some string/paracord to tie the cheese cloth across the top of the 2nd container. droop it a little as it takes a little to get the coffee to start to come through.

i know it's wordy, but not all that complicated.

Google: Aeropress / $26 on Amazon. Makes a great cup of coffee. Don't follow the directions: one scoop of coffee, pour in water to the 4 / Stir and put the plunger in. Let it sit. The longer it sits the stronger the coffee. Push the plunger and dispense the coffee. Top off the mug with hot water. It's a SMOOTH cup of coffee.. Enjoy..

I recommend the upside down method.

    i don't use a timer.

if you don't, it tends to start coming through the filter immediately.
the release of gasses will force the coffee out the filter.

and cleanup, after brewing, is literally 10 seconds.

I gave up on. French press years ago after I kept dropping them in the sink. After reading this I may have to buy one this weekend.

The best coffee I have found locally is Vermont Coffee Company's dark roast. The best part is you can trade in the bags back in and get coffee mugs or free bags of coffee.

Ok Greg, I wanted to try the cold brew. I went with one quart of water (reverse osmosis purified) and used 2oz. of coffee. Also, I used a small scale and did 2 oz. by weight which was an assload (probably close to 3/4 cup). Should I have used a liquid measuring cup instead?

i forgot to say, but yes, i measure it by weight.

    So, sounds right.
you will end up with a brew that you dilute 50/50 with water.

I worked coffee once. Yeah, there's something to the snobbery, but I just don't care that much. My Nespresso machine does the job most of the year.

Except when I travel to San Francisco. I get a hotel right across from Blue Bottle coffee and go there every day. Best I've ever had. Ever.

just remembered one more thing....at least with me, you may have to experiment with different coffees to find one that is best with cold brewing.

they all taste different with this method.

one that i love for hot brew is not my favorite for cold brew.

my go to cold brew is Trader Joe's medium roast.

Just got a new keurig office pro. Loving it so far. It's perfect for me. Especially when I can find deal on K cups all the time. I cleaned out lowes last night in there brewer section. 20 boxes of different kinds. Regularly 12.99-14.99 a box for 18 cups. Picked up 20 boxes for 52.38 tax and all. Had the keurig elite before this one and it would never let me down until i dropped it off the kitchen counter one day. Called keurig told them what i did. They sent me a brand new one next day air and a return label for the parts of the old one. Sent the replacement to my parents since they had never had one. Then picked this one up last night from staples.
