Pretty much anything you cook yourself will be cheaper than a restaurant. No need to restrict yourself to a crockpot:

Food Lion has a history of bleaching out of date meats (pre packaged and meat case) to regain a normal color, then repackaging and putting new expiration dates.

Pulled pork via a pork butt isn't bad in the crock pot. Thought my Fiance was on crack when she first mentioned this.

If you have local farmers markets, go to those. Much cheaper, much fresher, better quality. Eat what is in season. Apples from New Zealand are expensive.

Get a pasta cookbook and use it. Nothing is easier than cooking pasta with various sauces, veggies, and meats.

To add onto this, I'd also eat less meat that is higher quality than buy cheap ass meat. For $20 or $25 cash I can buy 10 days worth of fruit and vegetables from our farmers markets and it's fresh, good quality and locally grown.

This is very old news..... I agree they and everyone else did this as a practice 20 or more years ago, and it was a eye opener for the industry as a whole. But nowadays this would be instant suicide for any company and might go on in smaller chains but i highly doubt it.

Good to know it was a somewhat normal practice, but its about as morally and ethically bankrupt as a grocery provider can get. Wouldn't give them a dime for that reason.

Have a day you make all your meals and prepack them. Find out what you want to eat, don't want to eat, what you get sick of but most importantly write it all down.

I got soe bulk stirfry noodles, chopped up some veggies made some rice and had some awesome lunches.

try the pre-prepared meat things like rib bits or pre-breaded chicken. make sandwiches/salads/etc

Mygf brought home made tortillas to 4th of july and my parents have bbq rib burritos w/grill corn and stuff inside, MAJOR hit

ahhhhhh yes, food

buy whole wheat pasta and thai curry paste, add coconut milk, seasoning and a few other things (easily googlable, such as some add fish oil) and chow down on some healthier thai food. add what ever meat you want.

But don't budget to the point of buying only unhealthy food. make sure to pick up some baby kale and throw it on sandwiches, in eggs, in pasta sauce, etc., for a nutrient boost

I couldn't agree more. But that was one store not an entire company. Don't get wrong i'm not sticking up for them, they have payed dearly for that.... just know that practice goes on more in the industry.
