How to grill prime rib

    285/75-16 BFG KM1's, AVS vent visors, AVS hood shield, pioneer avic F900BT, pac steering wheel control adapter, Boyo rearview camera, pac ipod interface, tinted windows, Toytec 1.5 AAL, Bistein 5100s (front set to .85) Eibach coils, Black headlights, grillcraft black billet insert, N-fab light bar, 4 Hella FF700 lights & color matched grille, Sockmonkey bedside decals. 16x8 MT sidebiters, Weathertechs, Fabtech spare carrier.
    Gonna try to grill a standing rib roast (prime rib). Indirect heat? In a pan or directly on the grate? Any tips appreciated.

    '10 double cab TRD OR
    OME lift, Leer shell, Beefed sliders, Extra 12V outlets for rear bench
    Indirect, at a low temp, about 250. Then when the interior is about 110-120, give it a searing crust over high direct heat which will give you a good sear and the final few degrees you need in the interior. Let it rest 20 minutes before carving.

    indirect heat.

    trust me, a $20 probe thermometer is your best friend. you stab the meat, and run the wire out to a digital display. you CANNOT go opening and closing any outdoor grill to check temps..you will lose too much heat, increase cooking time..and it will suck!

    add a lump of apple wood to the coals and it will be great. i push all the coals on one side, and put a cheap alum pan on the other..the meat goes over the pan. you can add some water in the pan for insurance.

    it is easy. shoot for 125 degrees, let it rest to 135..the coals are super hot in the beginning and will do a very decent sear. i use only salt/pepper.

    agreed. once you start using a thermometer, you'll wonder how you ever went without.

    pete..did you do that on a kettle grill, or a weber smoker thing?

    Weber Smokey Mountain. ~350° lid temp for 2 hrs. Apple & cherry smoke. Exact recipe I used is in the link above. Best prime rib ever.
