HVAC EPA certification

I want to get a epa certification so I can legally buy stuff at a HVAC supply house (for use at my own house). I know there is a place locally that has a short class and then they give you the test-it is about $400. Is there an easier way to do this? Like taking the test online? I already do my own work and have ways to get things I need, but want to do it the right way.

www.epatest.com will let you take the 608 part 1 test for 24.95. With that you can buy any refrigerant in 20 lb cans. For 145.00 a local place will help you study for and administer the 608 universal test 1, 2, and 3. No one here has done that stuff?
