Air compressor hose question

Hi,

I'm looking to replace the hose on my 3gal. air compressor here at the house. I see the replacement hoses are made in rubber, polyurethane, and another material I can't think of at the moment. I was to get rid of the hard plastic hose because I had a coworker have a fairly new one explode at 40 psi and parts of the hose impaled his leg. What would be the best hose material to use (thinking rubber or pvc) and what size is preferred? Thanks,

 

Home Depot has a decent PVC coated one in fluorescent orange. Just don't buy the coiled plastic.

 

I have a 50 foot flexeel hose and love it. light and flexible.

 

One of the best "bang for the buck" air hoses I have seen anyware is the Goodyear 50' 3/8" black rubber air hose that Harbor Freight has!
It's on sale right now too!!

THis. Most PVC coated ones are not as good as a nice rubber one. The PVC ones I'v had get cancer bubbles and burst.

 

Just make sure the hose is reinforced with a braiding. (either see it in the PCV casting or fibers hanging out when its cut rubber) I have all Goodyear air lines in the shop.

I am with Dimonback stay away from the coiled plastic jobs. Few good kinks and they are done.

 

I have a campbell Hausfield hose I've had for a long time. It's blue, I can't remember the material but it has held up well through the years. The quick release needs to be replaced bc it leaks now. The only complain I have is rolling/coiling it back up in cold weather is no fun bc it gets stiff. Thats pretty standard with most air hoses though.

 

rubber hoses ftw. those coated hoses get hard as a brick in cold weather unless you have a completely heated garage...even then they are too damn stiff(thats what she said!!).
