Hey guys, someone mentioned that when welding on a truck I could risk frying electrical components. Any input on that? I'm thinking grounding to the bed and welding on the bed won't be much of an issue, especially seeing some of the stuff people fab up on here! (great work guys).

just disconnect the negative cable from the battery before welding and you should be fine

You may need to make more than one pass like this. This will keep the weld from puddling up and falling down on you or falling into the nozzle. Easier said than done LOL I'm by far no expert but this is what has worked for me.

The one pic I posted above was an upside down weld on the bottom of the axle tube. I had debated unbolting the driveshaft and e-brake cable just to flip the axle upside down but the welds look decent so I kept em
Thanks. Im pretty happy with how my welds look, except for my upside down ones, for being very new to welding. Yours look night and day better than mine so i will try that next time i have to do one. Thanks for the tip!

For angles you can make a simple angle finder with two pieces of thin wood or metal bolted together.

Been using a tweco fabricator 211i past couple of days. Honestly in not impressed with it. Only been flux core welding with it though. Haven't done stick or TIG with it yet. When welding with it outside it HAS to be in the shade other wise you can't weld more than an inch without hitting the thermal overload.

Are you doing any movement with the rod tip? I do a slight back and forth motion to help it fill in

Recently built a tube bumper. A few pics of the finished product:

Tube welding ended up being easier than I expected.

Is this a decent welder? I'd be using it for hobby type stuff, not anything super thick by any means

I'm more concerned of the quality. The reviews seem pretty good and the price point is definitely good =) I was trying to keep it under $500

I'll still need to buy all the gas regulators and stuff.
