I have a husky 20 gal that I picked up from home depot for $150 on black Friday it was $199 regularly. After a shipping mistake the price ended up at $110. It has kept up with everything I have asked it to do from running a flooring, finish, and single framing nailer to a 1/2" impact for rotating the tires. Although the 1/2 impact requires a little catch up time after each wheel so the tank can fill up. I have only had it for a 2 years so I cant speak to the longevity.

Looks like a handy size for what I'm needing. Motor very loud? Might find myself in an apartment for a while

I bought what I thought was going to be a reliable compressor (Ingersoll Rand) about five years ago ($300-$400?). Couldn't of had two hours of use time on it and the motor fried a few months back.

Had to have another to run nailers and such - ended up buying a Harbor Freight for $120 delivered and it works great. It probably has twice the run time on it compared to the previous one.

I'm not inclined to spend big money on a compressor if you're rolling the dice on quality.

Was there no warranty on the first compressor ?

My small DeWalt twin tank is about 15 years old , I have an 18 year old 20 gallon Eagle and a 12 year old larger twin tank DeWalt

Seems odd, but if you only had 2 hours of use time on it in 5 years it probably seized from lack of use.

Oh I have plenty of sawdust. A two stage collection system, stage one is chips and stage two is a bag you don't want to open because its pretty hazardous. So for their price its not that bad at all.

Hey , do you have any first hand experience with the Festool palm sanders and dust collection system , specifically the 125 and 150 sanders ?

    heh.
    "Gosh, this thing is LOUD!"

Wood flour just seems like a waste of money to me; whenever I've needed/wanted to mix some in with my epoxy I've always just emptied out the collection bag on my sander.
What do you have for a system? I want to eventually get a collection system set up.

Supposedly you could sand in a house and not have to vacuum afterwards. I haven't taken the festool plunge yet. Although the kapak(?) Chop saw has some nice features. Try woodnet.net a lot if festool users.

Now that I've got a few minutes to spend on festool. I think festools dust extraction is amazing. I think Bosch just copied there design recently. Its hard to get a good read on how well their stuff actually does because of the price. Somewhat of a placebo effect ei I paid more so it must be better.. Dewalts track saw cuts just as well as festools. The cravex (jigsaw) is supposed to not deflect the blade and in store I haven't seen it do it but I've never put it through the paces. The sanders are supposed to preform as you said at an amazing level. But you'd better use their overpriced paper. I switched to Freud's diabolo paper and while it cuts nicely it loads up to fast because the holes are not sander specific. With a good vac set up on a sander most of the newer ones do pretty well but as I don't do a lot of heavy sanding onsite I've never really tried to set up any real dust collection. If I was heavy into remodeling high end I would probably take some festool stuff for a test drive.

Mine was an older dewalt 12 and it lasted many Yeats and countless job sites. It paid for it sled many times but its also the last 12 inch saw I'll own.

The Festool sanders blow air out through the centre hole and sucks in through the outer holes , as far as I know that is the secret to their performance

My stystem is a home made thein baffle to drop chips and a larger baged vacuum system. I'll take a picture next time I'm at the shop. Spent a few weeks plumbing the whole shop so everything had drops and gates. Less clean up and less breathing of the dangerous small stuff if I do empty the dust bag its with a filters mask on.

Yes, I like to see how it does on the vertical or upside down as that's when even hooked to the DC that's when my dewalt sprays dust.
