actually, check out his pic above of when he put the drywall back in. I'd say he did one hell of a job with the drywall. Lord knows I've mudded way worse than that and it came out flawless.

 

I use PL Premium sub floor adhesive and ring shank gun nails for subfloor plywood

 

nah, gotta have a nailer dude! back in the day when I did flooring I think I used a bostich or hitachi coil nailer for subfloor but I freakin HATED my gun. freaking thing was always leaving heads up (and not to the fault of the compressor). screwing is just too slow.

To each there own. Screws vs nails the debate can go on for ever. The most important part is the sub floor adhesive.

Common screws have no shear value and that can be an issue with some seismic designs here that utilize the floor diaphragm as part of the lateral restraint

 

haha I knew someone would bring it up! but I want tensile strength. necessary on subfloor? probably not. but I want a strong floor all around, which is why I want to nail it vice screw it.

so back to my question...what gun you use? c'mon, give it up man!

Yeah, I have a crapola craftsman compressor that needs replaced. Wont use that to do the subfloor. it lacks the cojones to keep up. I have a POS coil nailer that I wont even attempt to use for the subfloor. I have a couple finish nailers and then my favorite at the moment - my paslode finish nailer. love that thing!

now I just need something for sub floor/framing and ill be happy.

 

You are going to need a flooring nailer to do the hardwood too.

and I already said I run Senco FramePro 600's and 601's

 

glue down hardwood. that might change though. depends on how the transition from wood to tile works out between the two rooms.

if I do 3/4 hardwood I'd just rent the nailer. no need for me to buy one for one room in the house.

Am I reading this correctly? You want to build your floors up a 3/4" then put hardwood floors on top? You still may end up with squeaks because the original floor wasn't glued or nailed down properly. Seems like an awful lot work for possibly same squeaky floor.

 

Did something similar to the upstairs bedroom, super clean and a much easier project. The fireplace and cable box/PS3 in the closet across the room 50 ft away is the reason it was not complex.
