Did you try spraying DIF on the wallpaper? That works awesome. It's a little messy but it comes off fast. Get some DIF concentrate from Home Depot (not the gel type) and mix it with water (one or two capfuls per gallon) and put it into one of those pesticide sprayers (they have some cheap ones at HD). Let it sit for about 20 minutes (you'll see it start to bubble up). You can use it again to get any glue residue off the walls.

I've done 4 rooms in my house with that method.

We have a sprayer, and we've tried water on the bathroom walls. It helps, but it's still a LOT. :frusty: The problem is the house is 100 years old or more I think and no one peeled wallpaper off before the next layer. So it's hard to tell if we're down to the paper layer on the drywall/plaster, or if it's another layer of wallpaper.

The hallway is an older section of the house, and at least 1 layer of paper seems to have formed a symbiotic relationship with the plaster.

The DIF might be something worth trying. Not worth it on the hallway. Already spent FAR too much time on it so FUCK IT! The walls are coming down! (Also, the plaster is cracking and I don't know if there's insulation in the walls so....)

My wife tried a steamer. It worked okay but it was slow going pulling one little piece off at a time. The dif solution is great. I could tear off entire sheets of it at one time. If it doesn't come off, just put more on and let it soak. If you remember, I had wallpaper on the ceiling in my kitchen. Dif got it off. You don't even have to scuff the walls with those pucks. In fact the video I watched recommended against it since it comes off in pieces instead of a whole sheet.

In a big room, usually by the time you get done spraying, the first sheet is ready to come off.

Then for the little patches of glue that get left on the walls, you just spray it and wipe it off with a sponge. The concentrate is cheap and it goes a long way. I haven't used a whole bottle yet.

If possible, we try to tear the paper from the glue backing first. The wallpaper separates and then just spray the backing. It soaks in much better without the surface paper.

I'll have to give that a shot! We counted at least 6 layers on the wall!

Not as much on the bathroom thank god. I think there's a special place in hell for people that layer wallpaper....

Yeah, at least it's cheap to try. If it doesn't work out, it dries so you're no worse off then before. 6 layers...Gah! All mine has just been one layer. Plus, it was a quality wallpaper job (ugly as hell but quality).

    I would do this then

Get a quote soon before you go much further with the scraping , they will be able to give you some input on whether you are wasting your time or not

    Lots of information here http://www.drywallschool.com/protips.htm

    For Skim Coating: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0IBUniNenAU

I spent a lot of time on that site and when I removed the wallpaper from my house the walls looked a lot worse than what you have. I did the skim coating myself and it honestly was really really easy a little messy and dusty but I couldn't see paying someone to do it for me it was too easy. If you don't use hot mud any mistakes are easy to clean up and if the walls don't look good you can sand it down and try again.

Finished and sealed the concrete countertop. My wife liked the look of the unfinished concrete edge so rather than fill it she wanted it to show. I still haave to put a wax coating on the countertop. Last night we did most of the backsplash. I still need to add a couple of trim pieces (didn't buy enough). Today, we grout. It's a stainless steel tile with glass tile accents. It looks a little more blingy in the picture than it does in actuality. I think the flash on the camera makes the white tiles pop more.

My son came in and did the plumbing for us.
