WD-40 is great sure, but what you really need is pb blaster.

    Need:

    Pliers
    Needle nose pliers
    channel locks
    vice grips
    adjustable end wrench
    screw drivers
    allen keys
    torx bits
    pry bar
    BFH
    rubber or plastic mallet
    brass punch
    drift punches
metric wrenches and sockets, standard and deep (3/8, 1/4, 1/2)
    breaker bars
    extensions
    universal joints
gear wrenches make life much easier some times
    shop light
    spark plug gapper
    tape measure

    Maybe:

    torque wrench
    dykes
    tin snips
    snap ring pliers
    files round and flat
    hack saw
    feeler gauges
    square
    level
SAE wrenches and sockets, standard and deep (3/8, 1/4, 1/2)

Craftsman is great and they will warranty anything pretty much no questions asked.

You may find you need an odd tool you might use once or twice, harbor freight is a decent way to go for that.

Need vs maybe... a lot of it depends on what you'll be doing as well. If you start tearing into the truck some of the stuff on the need list will be needed and possibly some fromt the maybe, if you're simply changing oil and spark plus you probably won't need a lot of that. However between the two lists you'd have a well rounded tool box ready to tackle most at home jobs.

You're right! That's the most important tool in the tool box too!

a good pair of slip joint pliers

and a mini flat tip screwdriver

i work in a shop and use these two items more frequently than any of our other tools.

double up on open end wrenches. many times i find that a wrench + a wrench > a wrench and a socket.

also, a good bench vise is worth its weight in gold when needed.

A lot of guys already have it on the rear bumper. I think it might be one of those things the dealer throws in like the license plate bracket and decal with the dealers name.

    ^^^^^VERY TRUE!!!

A Metric Socket set, if you dont care then it doesnt matter what brand just wont be able to abuse the shit out of a cheep set. Gear Wrenches in MHO are Gods contribution to the mechanic world.

A nice bright flashlight. Some people seem to like the huge Maglights.....I do not! I keep a small 2 cell AA LED Maglight in the Drivers side door cup holder. The LED ones are very bright.

And I am very very very suprised that nobody mentioned this but I keep A Leatherman Multitool with the flashlight. I think every time Ive worked on my TACO for whatever reason.....Ive used the tool. Im also a military aircraft maintainer so ......a multi tool .....is a must, its your choice!
