See, I told you he was a ninja. All the math aside, it is the practical experience of layout that is hard to come by.

No I think i understand. Meaning you can slip the siding right up next to or even under the tails a little bit. Nice trick.

Just make sure to cut the additional 1/2" to the overhang side of the exterior framing plumb cut line .

The exterior framing line I described earlier is to your 8' size of frame without siding .

Another way to do it would be to double the wall framing top plate . The heel of the birdsmouth in this case is only about 1 1/2" , doubling the top plate would leave you a full 1 1/2" of horizontal backing below the bottom of the rafters to nail the top of your siding .

For something small like this you can always draw it out full-size on a sheet of plywood. Also sometimes it's easier to just cut the top angle and birds-mouth then let the eave end run wild. When they're all up you can use a chalk line to snap a line down the length then mark and cut in place. That keeps your eaves nice and straight.

that is a T1-11 siding shed if ive ever seen one. i love that stuff, looks great for these projects . . . . . and i can't help with the smart stuff, i've alway just thrown two 2x4's up at an angle i like, measured the angle of the excess and cut that angle away from the bottom  but it sounds like you've got it all figured out . . . . sub'd for updated pics though.

As seen in the below pics I did make some progress this weekend. I didn't get a whole lot of time to work on it because of Father's Day stuff. I am traveling this week for work, but next weekend I am wide open and plan on completing the roof. Here is my progress this weekend. I have my rafter template done, and I got the ridge up. Hauling that 13' 2x6 around is not easy. I will update my progress next weekend.

Ok OZ this is for you, I had a little DOH! Moment yesterday when you asked if I was going to use rafter ties. Well I forgot them. I was so happy that I finally got the ridge and the rafters done it totally slipped my mind. Well I got them on this morning along with hurricane ties. This bad boy isn't going anywhere. It's funny because yesterday I was up on the roof screwing down the plywood on one side and my wife was nervous as heck the way it was leaning. I am no small dude either at 6'6 220. That sum bitch could have collapsed with me on the roof. Rafter ties sure-helped tie it together. I used 7 within 12 feet. I skipped one in the middle so I could easily slide long things up in the rafters. I got all the osb on the ceiling, drip moldings, and tar paper. Shingles are in the back of the truck, I will probably ride around with them for a couple days because I am too beat to haul them down to the back yard. I worked for probably 12 hours this weekend, and I am dog tired. It was only 90 with 90% humidity today! Thank god it is all shade.

Well on with some progress pics.

I think I will put a ridge support on the end just for good measure.

    Congrats

    Looks great

A 2x4 stud under the ridge on either end would be good , also you should put a double 2x4 or 2x6 header over the door .

    Good job

Thanks, I definitely will do something over the door, just haven't figured out my door design yet. I saw these four angle brackets to make a door today at Depot, it think I might go that route, not sure yet.

looks great jeff!. . . geometrically i don't think you "need" to have supports on the ends, but ive never seen one without them, so . . . your call i guess, i'd have them though.

figured out what your doing for siding yet? i still vote for T1-11.

EDIT: oz says to do it . . . . . do it. lol.

The end studs also provide nailing for gable siding .

FWIW Bluto is correct , they should not bear much weight , the collar tie / ceiling joists act as tension members for the rafters , not allowing them to spread , and this in turn keeps the ridge from coming down .

Hey thanks, I think I will just for grins, we get a lot of snow here sometimes so it would be worth it. It is under a spot where about three huge trees come together as well. I also foot to leave out that I crashed off the ladder today trying to hike up a piece of that osb it just about killed me, as the osb crashed on my back after I fell. Not a sole saw me but my leg sure feels it. I am hobbling the next couple days.

Looks good. That is more than I would have done. I'm a truss guy so I would have slapped some trusses up and called it a day. If I sticked the roof I'm too impatient to cut the birdsmouths so I would have ripped a beveled top plate and just toenailed the rafters.
