waxing your (shop) toolbox

Just picked up a nice new (to me) yellow Mac toolbox, not my top choice but price was right. I have heard someplace that you should wax your toolbox every couple of months.... True??? Also... good, bad or pointless to use a polish on it too?

My previous one was a black craftsman so I never really cared about looks/longevity

I should add that it will be in a shop, not in my garage.

Thats probably about the most anal retentive thing I've ever heard hehehe. If it's going to sit indoors I wouldnt worry about it. It's a tool box.

i wouldn't wax mine, ..but then again it's just a cheap craftsman tool chest (w/ scratches on it!).. if i didn't have other fires to put out all the time, ..i might wax the tool chest

A waxy layer can help prevent rust and addition to making it look shiny and clean. I use Boeshield T-9 on my hand tools and shop tools to keep them from rusting. It wax based and dries nicely to a smooth surface.

The benifits will be the same as a car. If you keep your car waxed then it will be easier to clean because of the nice smooth surface. same as on the tool box. but really as long as I can get into my tool chest at any gevin time with out turning my hands or fingures black then my tool chest is clean enough.

No wax here. Why would you do something that makes the stickers fall off??
