Grandparents have an electic mower like that but a mulcher, I believe it is 5 years old now??? They like it for what it is...

I use a Snapper personally, but have used the commercial grade Hondas and they are sure nice!

If you are comparing engine numbers make sure you arent comparing HP to TQ, most companies are rating in TQ now...

id get gas, electric is good in theory, but with as little fuel as a mower uses, the environmental impact really isn't there. plus people sometimes forget where our power comes from when they say they're being green buying electric yard tools. a good homeowner-grade gas mower can be had for less than $200 too and i think it would last longer. drain the gas out at the end of the season (and then run the mower until it runs out completely, otherwise bad gas sits in the carb and lines) or just use fuel stabilizer. also depending on where you live, you could buy marine gas for it which is ethanol free. although I've never had an issue with 10% ethanol fuels in my equipment (i ran a lawn business for 2 years)

I don't think that's right. From my understanding Toro makes their own machines with the exception of their lawn tractors which are made by MTD. There are a lot of brands made by MTD though.

Might not be MTD but I don't believe Toro makes their own engines anymore.

Several years ago a sales rep at Lowes told me that the only three manufactures were mtd, husqvarna, and John deere.

I don't think they've ever made their own engines. All of their commercial equipment runs either Kawasaki or Kohler engines. Most companies don't make their own engines. My Snapper pro commercial mower which is owned by Briggs & Stratton, has a Kawasaki engine on it.

He's partially right. Those are the big three manufacturers, but from my understanding, Toro makes all of their own equipment with the exception of lawn tractors.

I'm getting Toro confused with Troy Bilt... They changed engine manufacturers a few times and the most recent time caused quality to fall off. Dont mind me

Ahh yes...Troy built is garbage. They used to be halfway decent but since Lowe's started selling their stuff it's gone to shit.

I believe gas powered is the way to go. It takes more effort and cash to maintain, but the cut is worth it. I have a McLane reel mower that I just picked up from service. It cost me $134 for a carb kit, belt, plug, oil change, air filter and sharpening. If I would've maintained it properly, it would've only needed the sharpening or lapping.

My gardener cut the lawn for the last time on Monday with his Honda. After he left, I went over it with the McClane set to the highest setting. My trash can is about 95% full and it was empty to begin with. There is no way I would have achieved the cut I wanted with an electric. That electric would have been toast on it's first run. I guess it comes down to your yard size and preference.

I suggest to invest in a decent gas mower and keep it properly maintained. With a decent gas mower you could cut low enough to seed for winter grass. If you skip a week, no problem.

Enjoy the shopping and have fun with the new toy, whatever it may be. Just make sure it can handle whatever you may throw at it.

Toro makes their own stuff. In Wisconsin. I had a z master commercial 44" zero turn with a Kawasaki v twin.

ended up going with gas...a toro high wheel recycler. self propelled (for the wife to do it if i'm on detachment). got a pretty good deal +military discount through Home Depot (and the last one in the store to boot). pushing it around the store while grabbing the other stuff i needed, one of the employees saw it while helping someone else and was like "MAN, we sell a lot of those"...lol...took it for a test run today and the lawn turned out great!
