What do you think is easier putting the wax ring on the toilet first or the flange?

 

I put it on the flange and set the toilet on top of it.

 

Correct. On flange first then set toilet on it. Unless you have two guys to hold the toilet sideways for you it's way easier.

 

Set it on the flange, set toilet on top of the wax ring. Then while facing toilet, sit on it slowly til it seats. then tighten the closet bolts equally

 

Is it hard to get the toilet to set squarely on the wax ring?

 

Not that I noticed. Like he said, just tighten each bolt evenly.

 

No line up your closet bolts where they are in the middle of the wax ring.For example -0-, the 0 is wax ring and - are bolts. Then just set the toilet down where the bolts poke through toilet. Then sit on the toilet slowly to seat it properly. Its very simple, did you understand my make shift example?

 

just be careful you don't damage the wax ring putting the toilet over it. I've done than once to many. Those things are hard to clean up if you damage one.

 

Another good trick is to put cut-off drinking straws on the bolts. This helps line it up before you seat it.

 

Rubbing alcohol cleans up the wax pretty good

 

All you have to do is make sure you fully lift the toilet so it doesnt damage it
