Refrigerator in the garage

Anyone have a fridge in the garage. My old one (20yrs old)? just seemed to run 24/7 in this heat so I emptied it out and unplugged it. It's old and doesn't seal well anyways ad the fridge section always had water inside of it from the freezer any ideas what this is from..Maybe just too durn hot?

 

The condensate drain line is probly frozen up. As the evaporator in the freezer pumps refrigerant through the tubes it creates condensation on them and it needs to drain out of the fridge or it will build up with ice and be useless. If the drain line gets clogged and water builds up in this line it will freeze and all the water that is supposed to be going out somewhere else is being dumped into the fridge. I would unplug it for a day or two and maybe check the fins for cleanliness and you should be good to go.

 

Ya I have it unplugged, did notice a little white ice around the opening that brings cold air from the freezer into the fridge. Had the freezer set to the warmest setting but the thing still ran all the time..

 

Because it is old & not energy efficient. The older ones are going to always run. As you said it wasn't sealed well. And probably wasn't insulated as well as the new ones.

I had one in the garage that my wife had. It was 5 years old & didn't run all the time even in extreme heat. Now the wife is gone & so is the fridge.

 

I have a fridge in the garage. Only in the winter time though...

 

If you purchase a newer fridge most will have problems cooling in the winter or temps below 45 degrees due to the new style freon as well as the way they are designed with layout and sensor.

Some brands offer a heat kit to fool the sensor so it will run to say around 35 degrees but if you are in a cold area it will not be helpful.
