I see. I went back and looked closer at the picture. First time I looked I was on my cell phone and thought it was a masonry surface, not cinder block. But there's a lot more detail on my monitor here at work, haha!

    What size flues?

I've replaced miles of that shit over the years, even had golf ball sized clumps of asbesteos hit me between the eyes, wasn't too happy about that one...

I have a fire place @ my house.. It doesnt really throw off much heat. I have a wood stove @ my cabin, which is the sole source of heating.

Oh yeah, no doubt not to mention the average fireplace gets to 500f-600f give or take & wood stoves easily double that, my attic pipe was triple wall stainless w/min of 6" clearance, every other flue I've done is the usual 1"-2"...

    X2.
With some exceptions, fireplaces are more ornamental than functional from a heating perspective.

It's comical to have every door/window open at 2:30 am in the dead of winter trying to cool off because of 1 little pot belly stove...:)

Our stove can be wired to a thermostat. We chose not to because, when it calls for heat it would go full bore. Then shut down when the room was at temp. So it would either be full speed ahead or shut off, no moderation. The salesman also advised against a electric start. In the middle of winter we run it 24/7 anyway, using the manual moderation method:D

Well the dog would appear to be not particularly upset that it's woodstove season again.

You guys are making me really want my wood stove to be hooked up already. I decided to do it proper and get a permit. They said it could take 4 weeks for approval

And I don't want to order the chimney liner till I get approval. So hopefully December will be my first wood burning month.

2 of my 3 dogs aren't upset about having the fire cooking at my house. One of the cats still thinks he needs to be outside all day everyday.
