We have it up here too

It grows from N Cali to Southern BC , all within a couple miles of the ocean

Has to be seasoned for 2-3 years to burn best

Fucking tree is messy , it is an evergreen leafed tree , the leaves fall all year , the bark peels and falls off and the berries fall off

Arbutus! now I know of the tree. If I remember correctly, you can find them in Vancouver. 2-3 years is a ridiculously long time to cure. They must contain a lot of sap?

Based upon the chart, it would seem Oak may be the most efficient burn overall. I am in a remote location, so just burn what is available. This happens to be either Pine or Spruce which might have the worst overall rating though it serves me just fine.

We only season it over the summer. But we get pretty warm down here during summer. 20% water content is supposed to be the best from my understanding.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
That is something I've never seen! We use a hydraulic log splitter, and a tractor driven pto 36" carbide tipped buzz like this.
    http://www.newhavenpower.com/Buzz_Saw_Pto_Pulley.jpg

Ill take some pics of the wood pile and stuff next time at my Dad's.
His 200 year old adobe house only has wood heat, 1 Canadian Wood stove, 6 potbelly stoves. He uses about 3-4 cords per year, only juniper(cedar) or piñon, which is more or less the best we can get here in NM.
