HVAC People-Identify This Part

HVAC Guys, I need your help, please.

This is a part off of a Rheem 2 Ton AC/Furnace unit built in the late 1970's to early 1980's. I, the local gas company, and the local Rheem dealer/repair company have not been able to locate a replacement part.

It reminds me of a blower motor resister on a car. You can see on the top part (above the white piece) there used to be a metal spring looking thing that crossed from one side to the other.

It is on my Dad's furnace and the gas company says it has something to do with switching the unit from AC to heat. I am not sure about this.

The only part # etc. is the #'s F330048 stamped on the metal. I have searched with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It looks very similar to a modern ignitor, or Hot surface ignitor. Electricity would pass through the coil, heating up and in turn igniting the gas furnace.

That's what I'd think too.
Wires are too heavy for it to be a thermocouple... that thing carries some current.

WOW!! Awesome...thanks taco47001,
You don't know how much I have searched, including ebay, for this part. How the heck did you find it???

I didn't think it had anything to do with the furnace becuase it is still working. I'm going to order it anyway.

Thanks again...

What you need to ask yourself is...how the hell did your HVAC tech not have a clue what it was? I'd find a new HVAC guy.... just my $.02

Well I suppose the repair company knew what it was they just couldn't find a replacement. Don't know if they ever told Dad what the part was or not. As far as the gas company goes, well I think Dad has already figured out they are a little less to be desired, however, he has a contract with them for repairs and replacement...I think he is considering ending that contract.
