wow, prop to you for remodelling your kitchen and having a full time job as well, that is a tough schedule.

Is this kitchen on the second floor and if so, why are you using plywood under the tile? I thought if you laid tile on second floor, you should use a cement board as a base as it has less chance of flexing then plywood?

thanks guys. it sure is taxing to come home from a construction job just to go at it until 11 at night too. i probably should have used the cement board, but didnt think about it until after the fact. it was more just to raise the floor to be even with the wood i am going to put down. i "sealed" it with some latex acrylic, not sure it did anything....but the tile guys said to do it. i hope it doesnt crack. the joists are 12" apart and there is 3/4" T&G for the subfloor. I screwed the hell out of it so it shouldnt move. the 12" spacing should really help as well <crosses fingers>

Well, I worked all night to finish the drywall and paint. The original ceiling had some sand texture to it, so i had to either a) skim coat the entire upstairs, b)sand it down, c) find a way to match. Home depot had some sand texture and after a few mixes with the ceiling paint I found the right combo and it looks like it was original. Finished painting around 5:30 AM. I also found out that my tiles were popping up that I had just put down :mad:

Apparently that stupid latex crap the tile guy said would work, did NOT work. so, I am an idiot for not putting the cement board down (didn't even think about it to be honest) and listening to the tile guy. This is gonna be a problem because I bought the last batch of tile they had in that style which was the best one out of the ton that I looked at :( I can return 3 un opened boxes, try to reuse the old stuff (which wont work real well) and find something else I guess. I am out about 500 bucks for the tile and mortar and about 72 bucks for the plywood. Oh well, live and learn.

All the cabinets were the right size, except we screwed up and put a finished edge cabinet where it was supposed to be unfinished. I didn't know the guy ordered unfinished ones (to save money)....so, now I have to get a skin for the one by the sink and then finish the crown molding there.

Once I get the tile back down, I can build the island. Man, what a PITA. At least I can order my counter tops now though. by the time they get here I should have the wood floors and all the other little stuff done. So...maybe another 2 weeks-3 weeks until I am DONE!

Its been about 2 months from when I tore the wall down. I tore the cabinets out 2 and a half weeks ago which is when I really started to remodel imo because it made my kitchen unusable. Should take a month from no cabs to full functional kitchen which isn't too bad imo.

First picture was sometime this morning, like 5am. Second picture was 12 hours later. notice the different floor :(

sweated the copper for the sink this morning and got some temporary sink action going on.

2 hot, 2 cold valves. havent decided if i want to add a filtered water spigot or not. It was a mess before with all kinds of line taps.

I don't envy you. I have had enough kitchen remodeling and helping friends do theirs. Redoing the inside of a trailer house now for a neighbor. 5 kitchens in 3 years is too many, not to mention the out door kitchen last year, that was ok though it was from scratch.

Your place is looking great. Job very well done.

Man, it is looking good. Well, I am not an expert but I watched alot of This Old House and I remembered tiling on plywood is a no no. Glad to see your tile cracked now then after the fact that everything is all done.

    get some rest dude...

thanks. I gave the tile shop a call to see what they had to say. the claimed that if i primed the wood with the latex stuff they gave me, and mixed the mortar how they said, then it would stick no problem. BS. They said to bring a piece of tile in and they will check it there. So... now I need to bring a piece of tile and plywood and see what comes of it. they cant get anymore of the dang tile either

Never heard of that process/material. Maybe tell the tile shop to get an endorsement from Tom Silva from This Old House that their products do what they said it would do.:)

I think 1) plywood will expand and contract (which causes movement on it own) and anything that contract and expand should not have tile on top. 2) this is a second floor and so the floor is not a solid concrete base so when you walk on it, it will flex to a certain degree.

Tile need a solid base that should not expand/contract to adhere to. Maybe get some other professional advise beside the tile shop. Try a DIY forum and see what other say. Again, GL.

Nice, took me six months to do this one little room. Partly cause of other projects, now i am going on the garage roof to put the ridge cap on.

went to ABT yesterday and bought the stove I wanted...well, almost wanted. I wanted the cheaper dual fuel GE profile, but apparently it's not a true dual fuel since it still uses gas in the oven  The more expensive one has an "oven" instead of a warmer drawer...that I doubt will ever get used. 1800 for that :( plus 450 for the micro. Sucks, but oh well.

The second hand shop is supposed to be dropping off my profile fridge ($1000 cash) and a maytag dishwasher (450 cash) today. Total for all the appliances were about $4100. Oh well.

got the tile all down, island framed and the electrical rough done. well, i ran out of electrical boxes believe it or not. need to rock it today, finish patching the ceiling and i can grout. stove is supposed to be delivered today. granite guy is coming weds to measure.

im gonna have to modify the wall a little where the fridge is because i cant get it back all the way. we didnt have any wood left for the cabinets so we had to make the opening at 36. apparently it gets a little narrow at the bottom cause now i cant push the fridge all the way in.
