Bathroom Remodeling...

The short of this story is that a wobbly toilet repair turned into repainting, pulling up and replacing old tile, re-caulking, and new bathroom fixtures... Total cost was just under $150... So for those of you that think you cannot DIY - you can...

Old tiles about 3/4 of the way replaced:

Some caulking being done... so that it'd dry by time I was done tiling:

New/relocated fixtures:

The final product:

Note: I didn't PICK the colors OR pictures/decorations... I just did the lifting.

Yeah right. You were the decorator and the wife did all the hard work. Poor girl doesnt even get the credit she deserves. Looks good though. Nice work.

Looks good, nice job. I've been down that road, fixing a leaky faucet turned into a new floor and shower surround!

I touched the shower wall at my folks place...promptly had 2/3 of the tiles on the floor of the tub. Ended up de-doing the entire room-including taking out a wall to expand the bathroom by a little bit.

Haha... Yea, she did about 1/4 of the tile scraping... I'll give her that...

Sucks eh? But VERY much worth the finish... I hate using the larger master bath now. I go in there to pee just to look at the floor now.

It was fun for me- I love working with my hands...and the "hard" part was the demo.
We had a linen closet right next to the bathroom- so we took that wall out and moved the shitter in there- Got a little crapper cubby now and A LOT more room in the bathroom plus the bigger tub.

Haha... yea, that has always been an eye sore... probably since the house was built in the 70's.

The toilet WAS yellow... but was pretty shitty (no pun intended) so we replaced that with a new one... The tub will be next. I wanted to do it all at once, but The Boss told me otherwise.

Thats awesome... a Crapper Cubby... very cool! This is just the guest bathroom...

Our master bath has a jacuzzi and a double size standing shower. Pics of that to follow later this month when I am done renovating that one.

Nice Job!!

You can definately do this stuff yourself. A little research...

My husband and I are pretty 'handy', just haven't done much in terms of home remodeling. About 5 years ago we started on our 1/2 bath. Removed wallpaper (what a PITA), spackled, painted, installed new vanity & counter tops, new toilet, tile floor, etc. Turned out pretty damn good.

Our upstairs main bathroom needs done BAD! I'm half tempted to just pay our cousin (contractor) to do the work. WE have a similar tub/tiled area like yours (w/ standar 4" tiles I think).... and our tub doesn't hold water - it's in the tub itself (not the flipper thing that closes it). So, at that point...we're looking at a new tub and retiling the entire walls surrounding it. I don't even wanna think about tackling that ourselves....or else it'll take forever and we don't have an alternative source to take a shower! (laugh)

I always say...ONE step at a time. We try to do as much as we can ourselves...but sometimes, it's just easier to pay someone to do it!!

Good luck... I'd recommend having someone do the tub in a day... just to get it done... Then you could do the tiling and remaining remodeling. That would significantly cut your costs - while still enabling you take showers. My project took about 25-30 hours over 5 days after work... Worked till 1am some days... BUT I took a break to go watch the Redskins/Eagles game one night at FedEX field... so it would have probably been 4 days.
