satoshi grill material?

Can anyone shed some light on what material they used for their satoshi grill? meaning has anyone just used expanded sheet metal instead of a grillcraft mesh grill? what gauge, size of holes, metal (steel or aluminum)?

I've been looking all over the net and the best price I can find is $156 for the grillcraft insert.... F that

any other price saving tips would be appreciated....

i just did mine with expanded metal. i love it. i'll try to get some pictures today. i went to my local steel supplier and got a 4x8 foot sheet of it for $45. i'll also try to get some measurements (hole size and metal thickness) for ya later.

 

forgot i already had some pictures. i primered the metal and painted it black. i clear coated the plastic surround, but did not clear the expanded steel....figured that way i can jsut paint right over it if i get a rock chip or something. i also smoked a set of OR lights and put them behind it. with the larger holes of the expanded steel, they really shine through well.

Im moving soon so I dont have time for shipping and it be here by this Friday , otherwise that custom grills site looks like it might have worked. BUT im just gonna buy some expanded locally

thanks clayton, i've been happy with the expanded....it's also nice that you can get a 4'x8' sheet of it for the price of one grill's worth of vehicle-speciffic mesh. hope your install goes well
