GT500 is a waste of money and barely outpaces the 5.0L for a ton more money. Mustang GT 5.0L is ~33k MSRP fully tricked out with the 4.10 rear axle. You could probably negotiate to 30k even or less if you can wrangle a deal. It puts about 400hp to the rear tires, has a sub-4-second 0-60 which is faster than the M6 for about a 3rd of the price tag. It may not keep up as well in the twisties, but that's not really a concern for me.

Porsche would also be plenty acceptable.

The main reason I don't want her to get a BMW is because it annoys me how women think BMWs are special. That brand has to be the best chick bait ever, but from the recent "vanilla" models I've been in the interior and performance (not the M6 - I can't speak to those as I haven't been in one) are NOT worth that kind of money. They're on par with stock Hondas. For reference, I've recently driven a friend's 3-series and another friend's X5.

That and the expectations when you buy $80-200k is very high. Most people are more understanding when they buy a used $20,000 car or truck.

We may be talking about 2 distinct groups - I buy a new luxury sedan (7 series extended length). Not loose their ass? - you can pick one of these sleds up for 25% of what I pay for them just 5 years later.

I completely agree, that the value is just not there. But there is just something about that new V8 M3...if I had the money, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I think at that price range, "value" isn't a large issue of concern. Especially for a woman who is probably more concerned with status than performance.

Were it me, and I were buying, I agree with jandrews, I would look elsewhere. But if she wants an M6 and only an M6, then yes, it seems like a pretty solid deal.

Regardless of resale value - as long as I can have one and afford it, I love em. My 7 handles like it's my M3 - give me another work boat like that and I'd consider. :D

Since I have several years of experience as a BMW service advisor.... I would suggest leasing the car, and returning it before the 4years 50K warranty ends. You'll thank me later. $$$$$$

Especially if you rely on BMW dealers to do your service! I hope you were getting half of what they were charging! - each time I go to the stealer I consider it a very expensive cup of coffee - paid for by BMWNA :)

There are some great independents out there and most all of the stuff, if you are a decent mechanic, you can do all of your maintenance yourself. I have actually done maint. that would have been paid for by BMWNA myself - just to avoid the hassle of going in, picking up a loaner, waiting when I return - driving 30 miles out of my way. 2-3 hours when the job could be done in 45 minutes.

i don't think people quite get it... straight ahead speed is only one variable, and certainly not the highest in my priories.

    Her Criteria:
    - Has to be brand new...she's exporting to a country that does not allow the importing of used cars
    - She will not a do a single $ worth of modding
    - She has to pay one time in cash so she is not considering any form of monthly payments

I think, with those criterion in mind, this is a great deal

she doesnt really know what she wants, she doesnt know much about cars, she just wants a good luxury car. She has absolutely no interest in modding.

So she thinks leaving the country will help her avoid jail time? Good luck!

Sounds like money isn't an issue, so I'm assuming that the resale value is not really a consideration for her. Not sure what about the M6 is so appealing to her. Does she really want to go blazing fast or is this just a status thing for her?

The whole issue of exporting is a new wrinkle. A lot of what I'd recommend depends on where she is going.

I'd suggest that she look carefully at the service network available in her destination country. She wants to get something that will be easy to keep maintained. BMW may have good distribution, but if the M6 is not available there, then getting parts and quality service may be a difficult thing. Check Porsche and MB and see how they stack up.

Personally, I'd probably stay away from a highly specialized model. BMW also makes some diesels that are quite nice, especially for countries where diesel is more popular than in the US.

I drove a diesel BMW 525 in Europe for a few years. Obviously it was nowhere near the performance of an M6, but it was a very comfortable car for trips.

she's exporting to China, which has extensive BMW dealerships, but they dont really have too many Ms. I've seen some M5s and 6s there, but never at a dealership...Mostly the gray market.
