Who's the better truck?

I'm looking at 3 different trucks right now, all have gas engines and will be used for work and personal. The first is a crew cab 2500 chevy with the 6.0, the second is a crew cab ford 250 with the new 6.2, and third is the magnetic grey Trd tundra with the 5.7. I need a new truck cause I'm towing our camper and it weighs around 8k sometimes now on the weekend

 

For a working truck, I'd probably pic the chevy

 

I'd probably go with the Silverado.

 

F-250 all day

 

I think it would be a tie between the GM Toyota. I'm not sure how much I would trust Ford's New Motor. The GM V8 is almost bullet proof and the Tundy has a powerhouse of a motor. GL w/ your choice.

 

I'm pretty sure the chevy doesn't come with the allison trans, I think that's only the duramax and the gas gets the hydramatic trans

I would say it depends on your price range and prefencese. My
dad owns a 5.7 tundra and when towing our 5k lb boat to the lake the gas gets burned up quick.(this is a 2 hour trip one way) But with his previous truck a 2500hd gmc Sierra it'd pull the same
boat and it'd only use half a tank compared to the tundra which used a full tank just on the way to the lake. Don't have any experiences with ford

I love my Tacoma, but my next truck will be a F250....simply a beast

 

I'd seriously consider a diesel (GMC w/ the Allison Transmission!). 8,000 lbs won't even phase it and it'll get better mileage loaded with the boat and unloaded vs your gas powered alternatives. I'd throw the Tundra out of the mix, it's a 1/2 ton truck and not in the same category as the others. It's like the Tacoma, rated to tow a lot of weight but you wouldn't want to consistantly tow/haul at the upper limits, that's when things break.

 

Ford without a doubt. I agree with mjp2, go ahead and cross the Tundra off of your list if you will regularly tow 8k. I think the new 6.2 V8 will be a solid motor with an excellent truck around it.

 

Gotta say for full size i used to be a chev guy. Have you considered the new f150 thats coming out. I was reading something about a twin turbo v6... like the one in the taurus ho or whatever it is. Supposedly rated for big towing with v6 fuel economy (and not tacoma v6 fuel economy) might be worth a bit of a wait.

 

I think that I would have to choose the tundra, just because I would never buy a 2500 or f-250 gas burner. If you go with a gas engine then stick with a half ton truck. Thats just my opinion though.

 

Honestly, the Chevy 6.0 is going to yield about the same MPG as a 5.7L Tundra, possibly better with their multi displacement system and everything it has going for it. My parents chevy 1/2 ton with the 5.3 (pretty much a small bore 6.0 I believe) gets 20mpg on the highway and it doesnt have that multi displacement system on it even.

I've had nothing but awesome luck with my F-series trucks. That would be my recommendation. My 250 with a 5.4 would pull 7k all day long. Like mjp2 said, it's not the motor, but the frame, brakes, and suspension that make the 3/4 ton a requirement for towing heavy loads frequently.

I'd look at the new F150 with the TT 3.5L also, though. Supposed to pull 11,300 lbs and get 23+ mpg on the highway.
