American vehicles are junk. Everyone at my job has problems with them, doesn't matter what kind of vehicle. Then they go trade it in on a new American vehicle. Whatever, to each is own.

Yeah, we've talked about this new engine a couple times on here. If it holds up in the real world, then in about 3 years when my Tacoma has almost 200k on it, I'll be swapping for one. I have a soft spot for Ford, so if they can make this work and be a quality truck, I'll support them and buy one.

The biggest torture test will be owners putting crap fuel into them...I could see that really killing these ecoboost engines.

I've been saying for a while that Toyota had better have some engine technology up their sleeves. Even the non-turbo Ford F150 3.7 liter V6 engine is rated at 302 horsepower and 270 lb-ft torque, with a highway rating of 23 mpg.

So, tell me...why does Toyota's best engine in the Tacoma make 56 fewer horsepower and four fewer lb-ft torque, despite having an 0.3 liter advantage?

Even the dual-VVTi version won't help a whole lot. It still has a 24 horsepower deficit against the smaller Ford engine.

I'd like to see the engine torque curves side by side--I suspect that Toyota has an advantage. But it is hard to beat the advertising advantage of having a 300+ horsepower engine that gets better gas mileage than the competitor's smaller truck with a larger engine that gets worse gas mileage while producing less horsepower.

    Lots.
If Ford really wanted to prove something to people they would have given this truck to Motortrend or Consumer Reports and have them run these tests.

Ford doing these tests just seems to me to be a marketing ploy. If these results can be proven in the field with consumers I'd want to be inline as well.

After College which is roughly 5 years away this will be my next truck. My family has always had Fords and just about no problems with them. I will say the old 5.4 is a pretty slow engine although gets maybe 2 mpg's less than my Taco

Relax. Ford just released a ton of new shit over the past two years. Toyota is releasing a ton of new shit this year. When you're looking at one manufacturer's latest redesign cycle vs. another manu's previous one, things seem a bit lopsided.

MT is also biased along with their tests they do. GMC sponsors MT a lot and give them a lot of money, read this somewhere this past spring. so everytime i see a chevrolet or gmc truck of the year it makes me wonder if it really deserved to be or what, either way its just an opinion of a company. people will buy whatever they want or feel comfortable with.

i wonder at what kind of rpm's the truck has to run at to get that kind of power? with my experiences with turbo'd cars they all have to be at a high rpm to get any benefit from the turbo. cold weather also might be a factor with these engines aswell.

Uh, while it is likely true that MT bears some bias towards those who purchase ad space in their publication, let's not pretend they're more biased than Ford regarding Ford vehicles.

Agreed. If you go into any GMC dealer they have posters everywhere bout MT and their vehicles on the cover which happen to be almost 2 yr old posters :D

    FYI I HATE GM!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D
