As a generalization, yes. But I wasn't anywhere near JGCs.

Right...and I'm interested to see how it holds up. I like a lot of the items about the new JGCs. It's refreshing to see Chrysler get its shit back together in regards to interiors.

I just don't like that multi-ride-height doo-dad on an "off road" (for 40+ grand I don't think many will see dirt) vehicle, when regular independent suspension designs are fragile enough.

True enough, but last I checked wasn't there a huge thread on here about how most Military vehicles are going IFS because they can beef them up to the point that they're more reliable than SA on the same vehicles?

And yes, the interiors on the new GCs are fucking plush. I poked my head in one at the dealership. Very very nice.

To bad they start at $38Gs up here.

Oh it's absolutely possible. Hummers have had it for ages.

But if you've got the DoD's budget, what can't you afford to build and fuel? You won't see passenger vehicles with equivalent beef anytime soon. They would need to be rebuilt from the frame out.

They have a budget? I thought they just ran a deficit straight into the ground and straight out the other side to China? (That's a joke for those who might not get it.)

Jeep grand cherokees are crap...four of my family members have had one at some point and all of them had drivetrain problems. They've permanently ruined my opinion of chrysler vehicles. I'll admit that land rovers are problematic...we'll see now that they're starting to use other people's drivetrains.

Welp, same could be said for Tacoma's if you search our message boards enough. Facts are facts though, Most GCs are well built and last a good long time. We have over 200K Kms on ours and it's had maybe $1200 in repairs total.

Go get it! It's just a rabbit!

I know a lot of people with GC's none of which ever had any issues.

I love the new GC's myself. I'd love an Overland with the Hemi. Too bad they're out of my price range and a little too nice for my use I'd feel bad getting it all messy. Not the kind of vehicle I'd want to jump into wet and dirty from having the boat out fishing or something.

Tell me more about this 3nd gen Tacoma?

And the 4Runner is a fatass huh?

    3RD Gen 4Runner:

    Wheelbase 105.3 in
    Length
    1996-98: 178.7 in (4539 mm)
    1999-2000: 183.2 in (4653 mm)
    2001-02: 183.3 in (4656 mm)
    Width
    2WD: 66.5 in (1689 mm)
    Limited: 70.9 in (1801 mm)
    Height
    1999-2002: 67.5 in (1715 mm)
    1999-2002 Limited: 68.5 in (1740 mm)
    1996-98: 66.5 in (1689 mm)
    1996-98 Limited: 68.7 in (1745 mm)

    4th Gen 4Runner:
    Wheelbase 109.8 in
    Length
    2003-05: 189 in (4800.6 mm)
    2006-present: 189.2 in (4806 mm)
    Width
    2003-05: 73.8 in (1875 mm)
    2006-present: 75.2 in (1910 mm)
    Height
    2003-05 SR5: 68.9 in (1750 mm)
    2003-05: 71.6 in (1819 mm)
    2006-present SR5: 69.3 in (1760 mm)
    2006-present Sport: 71.3 in (1811 mm)
    2006-present Limited: 71.1 in (1806 mm)

    5th Gen 4Runner:
    Wheelbase 109.8 in (2,789 mm)
    Length 189.9 in (4,823 mm)
    Width 75.8 in (1,925 mm)

So the wheel base has changed by 4 inches. The length has grown by 6 inches. Width has grown by 3-5 inches. And height has grown by a couple. You're right. It's ENORMOUS! Geez, might as well call it a Sequoia!

They're awesome. You should check 'em out.

Uh, those are quite large size changes in the motor vehicle world my friend.

Notice how much larger the 2gen Tundra is than the original? Check the measurement differences (Double Cab 4wd models, to pick a trim at random):

    1st Gen Tundy:

    • Width: 79.3 in.
    • Height: 74.4 in.
    • Length: 230.1 in.
    Current Model:

    • Width: 79.9 in.
    • Height: 75.8 in.
    • Length: 228.7 in.
Holy shit, it's fractions of an inch wider, a little over an inch taller, and it's actually SHORTER than the god damn "7/8ths" sized first gen tundra.

Sources are Wikipedia for the 1st gen Tundy measurements, Toyota.com for the 2nd gen.

    Don't tell me 4-6 inches doesn't matter.

Once again: The current generation 4runner is fucking fat.

A ¼ to a ½ a foot is a big deal on a vehicle. Specially if you plan on off roading it. Those make for some significant changes to vehicle dynamics and trail experiences.
