4.0 vs 4.7

Im looking around and finally noticed that the resale values of the tacomas are so ridiculously high that I think its dumb to pay 16k ish for one with 100k+ when i could get a tundra (first gen) for the same price and a lot less miles.. Here in the charleston area many of the tacomas dont even have power locks and windows. Parents are possibly gonna help me out but are reluctant because I do want the 4.7 tundra over the 4.0 tacoma. I just think its so much more truck for the money (locks, windows, v8) and i like the looks a little better.

So ive looked around on here and other forums like tundrasolutions to see if there is a big enough difference in gas mileage to get a tacoma over a tundra, and I was hoping you all could give me a better idea. Especially those have owned them before or own them now... I have found the tacos are about 18 on the highway and keep finding tundras that do the same.

BTW Im looking at access cab 4x4s.

Is the gas mileage that different between tacos(4.0) and tundras(4.7)?

Nope. I get the same MPG or better than a 4.0.

Could be. It's the same tranny as the second gens (A750 series). I'm sure it's geared slightly different though.

Im driving my dads 05 tundra double cab 2wd and I average 17 with 85% highway and 15% city, this is completely babying it also, if I speed up at all the mileage gets down to the 15s, I have no experience with the 4.0 but it has to be better. I guess if your not driving to much it wont make a big difference but if you are then the smaller engine might be the way to go.
